A friend of mine has one and IMO it looks cheap and does not give a clean cut. Maybe her blades are bad? I was disappointed that she paid almost $30 for it after S/H, etc. and she didn't take my advice and get the MM precision trimmer on sale for $30. I have that one and LOVE it with it's self-sharpening blade and accurate cuts every time.
I think the idea of a light on cutters is great. It would really help out a lot especially when working at night. But I do agree with one of the posts above, I would be weary of buying this particular cutter it looks somewhat flimsy.
I can't say one way or the other about the cutter, but I have my kids trained well: The commercial came on yesterday and three of them (9, 7, and 5) ran to tell me about it and ask if I needed it!!

I got one as a gift, my best stamping buddy gave it to me. It is not flimsy, but the cutters are not the greatest to me. And the lighted area, I don't really see the point, maybe it would help line up a straight cut. But I will use it, a little. I would say save your money, buy something else.

I agree! A few ladies I know that have bought this were greatly disappointed. Cheap, cuts suck, etc....
The light sounds like a great idea but I question whether it really is that helpful. If it were a laser-like, thin line of light then it would really help you see where you are cutting, but I get the impression (I've only see it on TV) that is just has a lighted area which would be...well a fuzzy-type lighted strip (KWIM?)... that shows you generally where you are cutting but doesn't pinpoint the cutting line.
I've seen it in an infomercial and don't think much of it. Doesn't strike me as all that accurate and too much room for human error in judgement. I much more prefer my Score Pal and the other purple 2 boards that make score lines and envelopes (sorry I can't remember the name of it).
Funny that I came across this. My DD saw this and came running to me, do you need this mommy?? It seems like an interesting concept, but for only $19.99 how great can it be. Although as YouInkIt said I became a believer of informercials after trying Bare Minerals!

the commercial for this cracks me up. Especially when the person is cutting pictures at the beginning. They are all over the paper with their scissors. I said to my hubby, who cuts pictures like that????? Makes me laugh every time I see it.
That's awesome! I wonder if it's available in any brick and mortar stores?? (I don't have a Dick Blick around if they have an actual store... would have to be ACM, JA, or M's) Anyone know?
Wish I could get this through to my mom.....
OMG Me too. My mom is a huge sucker for shop at home channels and infomercials. She gave me this cutter for Christmas. I was kindof excited at first and then she told me what it was and I remembered the commerical and was thinking to myself in dismay.. "oh mom!". She actually got one for herself and all the blades and the plug in for the light and I think she said once it was all said and done it cost her almost $100 for everything. $19.99? What a crock!
I feel bad that she always gets taken in by this stuff but there is nothing I can really do to help her understand that it isn't a good idea. The sad thing is my grandma is doing similar type stuff except she is being suckered by those ppl that say that she won some money and she has to send THEM money in order to claim it and she always does it and never gets anything but her money taken from her and she is always telling her kids when they protest that "they don't want her to win". Ehhh! My mom knows that grandma is just being suckered, I just don't understand why she doesn't see what SHE is doing!

I am convinced that most of these are being sold through children. (Aren't there some kind of laws against this????) My 5 year old DD insists I should have one too every time the commercial comes on.
She also tells me I need a Betty Crocker (some cake decorating thing with a million little pieces), that green putty that turns white sold by that yelling Oxy Clean guy and, my personal favorite, A Life Alert. I need this last item in case I fall out of bed and break my leg. And....the PRESIDENT says everyone should have one! (I've seen the commercial - it's the president of the company that says that, not George W.)
I finally have her convinced that the toys in the Dollar Store are junk. Now if I can get her to stop saying it so loudly around the ladies who work there!
I think she takes after my mother. Grandma has developed quite a little Home Shopping Network habit lately. Every time she shows me the crap she bought I remind her that Golden View Nursing Home is not going to allow her to bring all this stuff with her when I place her someday! LOL!

I will say that since my mom gave me one & I got it out, I actually do like it. Don't know how sturdy it will be, but the light does work through light colored cardstock and I love how easy it is to change the different blades out. But I don't have room for an extra cutter & I need to have the SU one to demo with...
I believe this one was just offered on QVC! Lisa B and David V demonstrated it in one of the segments of a 2 day (6-7hr paper-crafting) program that aired Jan 3rd and 4th, but I wasn't moved to buy it.

It;s funny because My hubby and I said the same thing! we're like what kind of retard is that? is it that hard to cut a semi straight line?
I am a beliver infomercials.... I bought the 6 week body makeover lost 60 pounds in six weeks and then got tired of the work involced so I stopped. I have gauined back 24 punds because I reverted back to my evil ways....
I have bare essentials never stop getting compliments when I wear it,
I bought my brother proactive and it worked miracles!
but then again, I see a lot of crap out there and this definately is one of them I would not buy.... I am convinced the blades are the real moneymaker for them... the price is not bad, but the everyday use would cost a fortune and you know they will more than likely want to set you up on a auto refill deal.... and charge like 8.00 in shipping on each shipment...
You can check out the MM precision trimmer at their site
makingmemories.com (for some annoying reason I'm not allowed to post links yet)
btw-- M's carries this now and you can use a coupon. Should run you no more than $30-$35. Worth every penny.
The blade on this stays super sharp, never needs replacing(I've had mine a year this month and it's as sharp as day one and I use it almost daily)
If you decide to go for this one, make sure you line your paper up with the grid lines for exact cutting and not the top of the cutter like you might have done with your fiskars. (When you unfold the cutter to cut a full 12x12 sheet, the two pieces don't line up exactly so if you push your paper up against the top of the cutter, it could cause an uneven cut) kwim??

That is SO funny! My girls, 11 & 8 said "are they in Kindergarten?" "no one cuts like that!!" We've decided that it is NOT worth it. Besides I have 2 fiskars 12" cutters & the SU one.
