Default anyone use nestabilities in a cuttlebug?

I've read that the embossing isn't as deep with these in a bug compared to using them in a wizard but want to hear from someone who has actually done it.

thanks

ps. not that I'm giving in and buying these, you know though, you just need to be on top of things just in case!!

Hi Joan! I haven't actually tried it, yet. My nestabilities are on order But, I read on several blogs that these dies work in the Cuttlebug, and even added the sandwich stack to my chart (in downloads forum).

I haven't heard anything about them not working as well. If that's the case, I sure hope I'm not disappointed.

Would love to hear from someone who's done it, too.

I don't think that they are actually available 'til the middle of September. They are just available for pre-order, so I don't know if anyone really has the to try yet. I ordered mine and called to ask if they work in the Cuttlebug. I was assured that they would . . .

check out the nicole heady's blog...you know, the papertrey lady..... she did a whole bit on the nestabilites and what and what they are not compatible with.

the are definitely compatible with the cuttlebug and if i remember right, her tutorial was WITH the the cuttlebug.

Go to www.nicholeheady.typepad.com and click on Embossed Card Fronts with Nestabilities under her tutorials. She has a whole section on using them with the Cuttlebug as well as many other die cut machines. I belive that Nichole has the Cuttlebug and uses it herself. Nichole is on of the founders of PapertreyInk and I pre-ordered my set of Nestabilities because of this tutorial.

I can personally attest to using the Nestabilities in the Cuttlebug as well. The key difference is the amount of pressure that is exerted by the different machines. The Wizard exerts a tremendous force when dies are rolled through it and therefore you are guaranteed a crisp, deep emboss each and every time. With the Cuttlebug you need to "play" with it a little bit to get that same depth of embossing. It definitely is possible, but unfortunately I have broken my B plates in attempting to make my sandwich too thick.

My recommendation when using the dies in the Cuttlebug is to utilize the recommended sandwich that Spellbinders has put together for you. If you try and add too much of an extra "shim" you may end up cracking your B plate. The effect that you receive using the recommended sandwich will be beautiful and unless you put two cut outs side by side and make a comparison that way you will not know the difference.

Now if you don't have any type of machine to begin with I would highly recommend purchasing the Wizard being that it is all metal and I have not had one single plate break with all the many things I have experimented with. My second choice for a machine would then be a Big Shot or Big Kick being that I have not broken any of their plates either. They are plenty warped - LOL - but not broken. Unfortunately I have even broken my C plate and have not been able to find a place to purchase a replacement. Perhaps Michael's carries the C plates, but I haven't had the chance to run to Michael's to see.

SO if you own a Cuttlebug, Big Shot, Big Kick, etc. I would use those machines and be perfectly happy with them. There is no need to run out and purchase a new machine. The only additional pieces you may need are the tan embossing pad, which is available in the Wizard Charm Embossing Kit, and the white spacer plates (and for many machines you do not need these). So check the compatibility recipes at Spellbinders, Nichole's blog or my blog and you will be able to find the answer. The only machine I don't have any experience with is the Revolution and hopefully we will soon have the sandwich recipe for that machine as well.

Hope this helps and answers some of the uncertainty regarding what machines Spellbinders dies work in and what the effect will be. As soon as I get back on my feet (or perhaps with some help from my family) I will be able to do a side by side comparison for you showing all three machines cutting and embossing capabilities using the nestabilities side by side. I hadn't thought of doing that until now, but I think that it would be a good idea so that you can all "see" for yourselves.

Thanks Ellen this is very helpful. I knew that the nestabilities were touted as being compatible with the cuttlebug, but the scuttlebutt (try saying this sentence 3 times!!) was that the impression wasn't as deep as with the wizard.

I already have the cuttlebug so getting a wizard isn't in my future, but the nestabilities are. Can't wait for my birthday!! LOL
