Default Before I spend the money?

Having been into toile painting before, I still own many bottles of Acrylic paint. My new interest is in creating vignettes and all things Tim Holtz. Looking to find out the difference between his distress paint and regular old bottles of acrylic paint?

I came across this review of the TH paints... maybe it will provide some info on possible differences?

Obviously one of the key selling points of the Distress paints is that they match the colours of the other products in the Distress line - if that becomes important to you, you might want to buy some but if you already have craft acrylics in your stash I’d say play with what you have and see whether you like the result!

I went ahead and got a few colors so I can see if they paint metal and plastic with better results. I will let you know. I wasn't really happy how my salvaged santa turned out using my acrylic paint.

I think you need a special primer or special paints that will adhere to metal and plastic. I used that type of paint to change the color of my ATG when I got it years ago. Regular acrylic paints, including Distress paints, peel and scratch right off.

Acrylic paint will usually stick better to metal and plastic if you give it a bit of a “key” - use very fine grit sandpaper to rub the surface of the object before you paint it. If it’s something like Scrapjanny’s ATG that gets handled a lot then acrylic paint of any type is not going to be your best bet but if it’s an object that won’t get a lot of handling it’s worth a go.

A few months ago Tim was doing demo videos for his various products. This Distress Paint one is 2.5+ hours long, it covers many surfaces & applications.

I picked up some of the multisurface paints from Apple Barrel recently, and I like them. There are a couple of different sets (10 colors) as well as individual bottles.

Dini, are the Apple Barrel paints different from the Apple Barrel paints I purchased about 4 - 5 years ago. I kept them in good condition. Wiped the lids before closing by taking the caps off and using a baby wipe. Stored upright in a cool place. I planned on using them in poured paint projects. So, I'll be looking for some new replacement paints.

Here's what their product info says:
"Apple Barrel Multi-Surface Acrylic Paint makes your projects even more fun and easier. It bears the same great characteristics as original Apple Barrel paint—quality, selection, and value—with the added benefit of multi-surface coverage! This water-based, certified non-toxic craft paint is great for tin, terracotta, paper mache, canvas, wood, plaster, rigid plastic, fabric, concrete, glass, and ceramics—and it cleans up easily with soap and water!"

Just wanted to let anyone who is interested know, I did a comparison of Apple Barrel Red Apple and Distress Candied Apple.
The Distress is much smoother and less streaky. It is a superior paint in my opinion.

Is it the regular Apple Barrel matte, or the multi-surface?

Regular Apple Barrel. I only have the white multi in Apple Barrel and not the White in Distress. Guess I need to by the white just to compare.
