Wondering what the best eyelet setter is? I want to be able to put eyelets on cards and in the middle of things so the crop-a-dial I don't think will work.
Since I very seldom want an eyelet further than the 1" from the edge, I really love my Crop-a-dile. I ruined so many eyelets and so much cardstock with the hammer on things! When I first got the Crop-a-dile, klutz that I am, I even had trouble with that. But someone here on Splitcoast recommended a change in instructions (different than the product package) and now it works great!!!
I wouldn't give up my crop-a-dile for anything!! You can still put eyelets in the middle of a page or a card if you put it on a matte first, just something to consider.
If I couldn't have my crop-a-dile, I'd go with the old low-tech hammer method. I have a silent setter and I HATE it, too much twisting, standing up and putting all my weight on it..ugh.
I love my crop-a-dile too. I would be interested in knowing the different directions that GarnetJ mentioned. I can use mine now but, if there is an easier way to use it, I would like to know it.
I use the Making Memories eyelet kit - it comes with 3 different hole punch sizes. I have the SU eyelet set - but the hole punch one broke, but I still use the setter one (with the point). Works great.

Me neither! They will be prying it out of my cold, dead hands. LOL! Seriously, it is the best. I have heard lots of bad things about the Silent Setter, if you really need to eyelet the middle of a project and the crop-a-dile won't reach, the SU Crafter's Tool Kit setter is pretty sturdy. I ruined 2 (yep, count 'em TWO) setters from *other* brands before I finally bit the bullet and bought the one from SU. Although if the crop-a-dile won't reach, I do seriously think about moving the eyelets to where it will before dragging out the pound-it method.
I'm with jennifer-g - I love the Crop a Dile. And I just always place the eyelets in a place on my card so I can use it. Many times we use layers anyway, so it works out fine.
I have the MM set to use with a hammer, but it is so much trouble to use. I have to sit on the floor with it, because the table bounces! I haven't used it since I got my Crop a Dile.
I had the Silent Setter for a whole afternoon - and returned it. It hurt my hand and wrist.

I have had various setters. I first had the SU kit, and still have it and love it. I then bought the silent setter so I could work on things when kids are sleeping. I also didn't like the standing and twisting and putting my weight on it. Once I saw the Crop-a-Dile in action and heard so much about it on here, I picked it up at Michael's with a coupon. I am in love with this thing!
It makes no noise and I don't even have to move from my seat to use it. I also don't have to clear any workspace for it! The funny thing is I always pull out my SU ruler thingie that came with the SU kit because it's perfect to get even placement.

When I first got the Crop-a-dile, I still had trouble with some eyelets splitting on the back. The "trick" someone mentioned was to use the C and the 4 sides of those little "thingies" because the flat surface of the 4 is less apt to split the eyelet. Works for me.
I just bought a crop-a-dile about a week ago, and am already unsure how I ever lived without it! It's wonderful - I'll be using a lot more eyelets now!
I actually really like my PC silent setter. The trick, IMHO, is not to twist, but to push straight down. If you twist you can strip the screw that holds the top on (learned the hard way.) And by the way it splits the eyelet, I don't think it was intended to twist anyway. When I have a harder eyelet to set or lots of layers of CS to put a hole in, I just give it a whack with my rubber mallet. Works like a charm.
I don't remember where I got this, but I either heard or read somewhere that a new long-reach version of the crop-a-dile was coming out possibly this spring? Has anyone else heard this or was I just "wishful-dreaming?" :p

I have a crop-a-dile and love it but I also have something called eye-lets etc... This is a good tool for middle of the pages and isn't as intensive as the silent setter. My mom got mine on one of the big home shopping channels. i forget which one but just look it up. This comes with a mat and a several hole and eyelet setter tips it also come in a little plastic organizer with a bunch of eye-lets. All different styles. It still takes me a while sometimes to feel comfortable enough to just let it snap but when I do it works great. What I mean is you pull up a knob and then drop it..just once should do the trick. It beats the heck out of having to use your hamer if you can find it. Unfortuantly, it is still loud but it is only one whack to a bunch of whacking from the hammer!
Replying to the eyelet setter question. Not sure what a crop-a-dial looks like but I bought a tool from Americantag.net a few years ago and am so in love with it there seems no need to look for anythying else. It is the Homepro LR tool. It has a 6" reach. The kit it comes with sets three sizes of eyelets and as long as the hole fits it does all the other eylets out there, it also cuts the holes for those eyelets! It is a cast iron piece, heavy and only requires that you pull the leaver, very quiet, requires very little effort, and you can punch through at least 6 layers of card stock at once! Love it! Paid $99CAN a few years back, go to americantag.net and check it out!

Yikes! and I thought the crop-a-dile looked intimidating! ;)
I love my silent setter and I have no twisting issues. I just push down and the eyelet is set. I scrapbook a lot and so I use eyelets in my pages further than the crop-a-dial can go so I prefer having this one tool that works perfectly for me to having several around.

I LOVE my Silent Setter too! I use it with Eyeletz which are much easier to set....I believe they were designed for the Silent Setter. I have the Crop-a-dile and it is OK most of the time. Unfortunately it has crushed quite a few of my Making Memories eyelets so I use it rarely.

Has anybody tried the Karen Foster Clikit? I have not opened it yet and since everybody is raving about the Crop-a-dial I am thinking of returning it and getting the crop-a-dial instead.
Any feedback on the Karen Foster Clikit??? Thanks so much!
