Question Blender Pen Fans

I was given a blender pen, and have been very happy using it. Although I do not use it that often, it has gone dry after about 3 months. I have no idea how old it was when I received it. It could have been new, but I just don't know so it might have been older.

Is that normal? How long do your blender pens usually last?

I can't afford to replace it so I am pretty bummed because I really liked using it.

All responses are appreciated, so thanks in advance for your time!

If it was bought within 90 days, you can have it replaced by SU. Need to contact your demo or the giver's demo for that, though.

Thank you, but that really isn't an option in my situation. That is why I was asking our more experienced members what they have noticed.

Thanks again for your input. Have you used them before? If you have what were your observations?

I've had my SU Blender Pen since November, and it's still nice and juicy (correct verbage?). I have one from years ago that's dried up though (non-SU). Sorry I'm not of any help. :-(

I have 3 that are probably at least 5 years old and they still work. I have an order to place soon and was thinking I need to replace them as they are starting to exhibit signs of drying out. HTH.

I have never used a SU blender, so I don't know the typical life span for one... have you checked to see if they sell refills of the blender solution for it? Or perhaps it would be more affordable to replace it with a different brand?

I don't use blenders often, but I LOVE the Dove blender when I use one... it is refillable, and the nibs are replaceble.

I have a couple of Tombow blenders too that I rarely use, have probably been sitting in a drawer for a couple years, and they are still not dry.

Hope this helps in some way!

Search here on SCS because in one of the threads someone talked about a blender solution and you can remove the tip and put solution in the pen. The thread may have been about cleaning solutions and someone mentioned it in there. It might take a while to find it, but put blender pen solution in the search box and see...I am on my way out or I'd try it myself. Maybe later....

My SU blender pens seem to last quite some time -- I have a few and haven't replaced any. BUT. . . I don't use it that often. When I have, I've found that the cardstock kind of "pills." Someone else recently shared with me that the same thing happens to them which made me feel better -- I really thought it was operator error!!

I recently heard a lot of people talking about the Dove blender, like Laura, above, and how much they love it. . . and I had never heard of it before. I'm going to check it out :^) .

My cardstock NEVER "pills" with my Dove Blender... I highly recommend it! (I have had that problem with my Tombow blenders though.)

They have a liquid blending solution in them, and work sort of like a paintbrush... You can use them with watercolor pencils, watercolor crayons, and blending chalks.

The Dove blender works with blending chalks, with ANY colored pencils, and also water based markers (although I haven't tried this myself, they do advertise it to work).

HTH!

Wow, this is great info. Thanks everyone!

I haven't heard anything about the dove ones before. Maybe the SU ones I got were old or just bad luck. It is encouraging to see many of you have ones that have lasted for years. If I try a homemade refill solution I will most likely use the one from stampbusters.

I checked out this page with instructions:

Dove Brushes: Dove Blender Technique

And I am intrigued -- I will have to try these for myself! You know how when you keep hearing about something over and over within a short time frame, it's just "meant to be," right?! :^)

The Angel Company carries them for $4.25... I am a demo if anyone is interested!

Maybe your local scrap store otherwise?

Dove Blender Recipe:
2 tsp glycerin
4 tsp distilled water
1/4 tsp rubbing alcohol(70% +)

Stampin Up Stamp Cleaner Recipe:
2 cups distilled water
2 Tablespoons Rose water
1 Tablespoon Baby wash

If you don't want the scent-here's another recipe(I prefer this one)
2 Tbsp glycerin
8 oz distilled water
1 tsp baby wash.(any cheap baby wash will do

I would think so - I refill my SU blender pens with Dove refill and they work fine.

I prefer my SU blender pen over the dove pen. I like the tip better as the Dove tip is not as soft and I got pilling whereas with SU I didn't.

I don't think this has been mentioned yet, but store your blender pens (and markers) laying flat (not standing on end). This keeps the fluid evenly distributed.

I use my SU blender pens all the time and they last for at least 2 years. ALSO on the SU blender pens there are TWO tips. If one tip runs dry just switch to the tip on the other end. It's like having two blender pens in one!

That is a great idea! I didn't think to try the other tip. I guess I figured if the fluid was gone, IT WAS GONE type of thing. I will defiantly try that.

I have been storing them flat without knowing it was "right". Glad to know I am helping them last

I'm curious as to why you can't contact your demo and have her get you a new pack if they did dry up too quickly????

I have had some for years and they still work....
