Default Breaking B plates with less than 20 cuts..

Hey all, I managed to break 2 B plates yesterday after less than 20 cuts. They were actually 1 B plate from two different "sources". One was the B plate that came with my CB in the box and the other was from a set I bought as a backup. Now I'm only left with 2 good ones.

Are people finding better luck calling Provocraft or emailing them with the problem... also should I ask for 2 new sets or just one (since I have 2 plates out of 4 broken even though they came from different sets).

Thanks!

I haven't cracked my plates in so little use but I do have to make sure that I apply even pressure otherwise I can hear it straining like it wants to crack.

I also put some clear tape on my cracked plates and use them on the bottom since the bottom ones are only there as a shim.

Try not to overload the CB. I can put 2 rows of Alphas thru mine but not 3 rows even tho they *fit* it's too much strain. KWIM? I've had my CB since Christmas & have cracked only one B plate. I still use it for die cuts.

You have to call. I've never had any response to emails.

My first set of plates worked great, altho nowhere near the 500 cuts PC suggested. My second set of plates cracked in fewer than 10 cuts. So, I called. I received them about a week later. I keep using my "extra" coupons at Mike's for extra sets of plates. Hafta be prepared.

Ok, I'll call them.

BTW I was just cutting medium weight chipboard letters. The first time I broke the plate, I had put in two alpha dies with chipboard side by side and that really didn't work well. So I stuck with just one die and one piece of chipboard. The second just cracked doing this. Perhaps I put the plates in skewed a little.

So the B plates are supposed to withstand 500 cuts? Mine did not last that long... cracked it on Saturday. I was putting 4 dies through with a chipboard coaster, though. Must not be recommended to do that much at one time?

Tammy, I'm guessing they don't do well with the chipboard and more than one die at a time. Mine broke when I had more than one die..

I definitely think we're getting about 100 cuts per B plate, if we use CB dies. :-) Now, if we use large Sizzix dies, I think we get about 20-25 cuts. The problem is, I'm not in love with a lot of the CB dies. There are some that are great: tiny tags, sliders, asterisks, flowers, scalloped squares, and lots of the latest release. But I want bigger shapes, basic geometric shapes, scalloped shapes. :-) So, I just always buy one more set of plates, I guess.

I love my Sizzix dies, and they wear out the B plates very quickly. I just have to accept that.

How long did it take for you ladies to get your replacement plates from provo? I called 2 weeks ago and haven't gotten mine yet.

LOL! I'll try. I still have the broken ones.. maybe I should put one up on the wall with a little sign... "this can happen to you too if you misbehave!"

This has probably been said, but it seems a good idea to have 2 sets of plates. One to use with die cuts, and another for the embossing folders. The embossing seems to be much easier on the plates.
