Default Can I cut mat board myself?

I am working on a project and would like to cut some mat board into rectangles or even chip board.

Xacto Knives should cut the chip board but what about mat board?

i use a rotary cutter and my ruler.
my mother had an old rotary cutter she used for quilting, and when she got a new one, she gave me the old one. i just bought new blades. works like a charm.

I have cut mat board with a metal edged ruler and a good craft knife! The rotory cutters work great too.

Yep, you just need to be careful, b/c they can dull them out quickly

Mat board is fairly thick and I did not need a super straight edge so I used the rubber/craft scissors from SU or KAI scissors. I was replacing the middle sections of the photo pages in an old leather bound photo album. Then I resurfaced each page with Very Vanilla. Hoping to alter it eventually....

I find it much easier if I cut using 2 or 3 swipes of the blade. I don't try to go all the way through on the first pass. For one thing, pressing down really hard can lead to nasty accidents! I go once to "break the skin," as it were, then it's easy enough to follow that line a couple more times to cut all the way through.

Thanks for the advice. I have an old rotary cutter and also craft knives. I will be cover it with paper so I dont need a clean edge.

I am a little concerned about injury though. My dad was a butcher and had these fine chain-like mesh gloves I keep thinking about. (you cant cut through them) ;)

I am trying to make a recipe card holder free style so I will post a picture if I get it constructed.
