Question Can Opener

I have to buy a new can opener. I know somewhere there was a thread started...but can't find it...about the can opener that cuts from the side instead of the top. I was thinking that since I have to buy a new opener anyway...I might as well get one that I can use for crafts as well. Can somebody please help me with this info. Thanks so much.

it took a few search tries...but here are some links for what I want to do with my can opener (I mean besides acutally opening cans for actually getting to the food)...

Anna's Goodies by diner - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

Splitcoaststampers - Altered Pop Top Can Project Tutorial by Julie Buhler

I'm off to find a can opener. If I don't find one locally...I guess I'll have to order it.

Okay, my first thought was "this lady's got the wrong forum!" Then I clicked on a tutorial and WOW! Another new lesson learned today. Thanks!

I found one this past summer at an estate sale for $3.00 bucks it's electric. Hubby was like "do we really need another one"? Um....YES, just in case the one we have now goes bye-bye!

I've got so many of those pop-top cans saved that my oldest daughter thinks I'm a hoader! Of course I have used dryer sheets, cereal boxes, drink coasters, etc......

lol @ muscrat. Really...I'm just trying to justify buying a safty opener. I'm right there with you Mary...I reuse so many things...makes for some interesting crafts. I'm moving into my own place...it has a garage...which means...dare I say...storage. So...that's where I am. I really like the gift idea of pop top cans...so clever. I can't wait to try it. I'll post a pic if I ever get the opener.

I think the Kuhn Rikun side opening can openers are the best. They can usually be found at Marshalls, TJ Maxx, and sometimes Tuesday Morning and Ross. They ususally have them at a pretty good price. I have several and have given them as gifts and everybody says they love them.

Just found out last night that my mom has that kind of can opener so I am going to give it a try first, then buy one if I like it!

Sorry I took so long to respond, just found your question! I have a Krups. The one I found at the estate sale is also a Krups. You may find them on e-bay, I don't know if they still make/sell them in the stores, haven't look.

Walmart sells one of these....I forget the brand but it is around $7. I have used it for the pop top cans and it works great.

Walmart is your place just as a previous poster said. The brand is "Good Cook" and I think the price was around $8 bucks. I've used mine for several years now. It's my every day opener - for cooking AND crafting. hehe No sharp edges - one travel around the can and it loosens the adhesive around the lid - all you do is lift off the lid. Easy peasy!

I bought mine at Walmart. I believe it was about $10. A week later, my daughter bought one on a rack there, clearance for $3.

I love my Pampered Chef one, but then again, I'm a PC junkie. I'd be happy to help anyone out who needs one, too
