Question Color Ink or Black Ink

My question is: Do you mainly use your Black stamp ink or do you use your colors? I have the entire color families (last set) from Stampin Up and the only one I seem to use in my Black. I feel I have wasted all this money on the colors that I don't use. I would say that 98% of my colors have never been touched. So what do I do now?

I find myself only using black for either outline stamps, or sentiments....and not always the sentiments. I find that now that i have all of the SU! pads, I use them A LOT. A lot more than I ever thought I would. I guess it depends on what you are stamping. :-) Everyone has their own technique preferences.

I found that I used mostly the neutral colors, especially for outline stamps so I bought all the color families in Stampin Spots and bought full size neutral stamp pads. This works great for me. Even when I want to ink up a background stamp, my stampin spots work.

I use my black for images I want to color and my colored for Background stamps, sentiments, and solid images.

I don't have all the colors but I do have plenty. Just depends on what you are using them for. You could probably sale some of them on the B/S/T forum if you wanted to unload and get a little of your money back!

I did the same thing, not with SU, but lots of other inks.

When I first started I bought every color of ink that I could find, here and there.

Now I rarely use the colors, just Versafine Onyx and Pallette Noir. Occasionally, I will use one of the colors to distress the edge of something.

You must do a lot of coloring.
Try CASEing some cards to get you using your color ink pads. I use mine frequently.

here's one: my own challenge by bdrew at Splitcoaststampers

I find I reach for my black often, but I do try to use my other colors. Sometimes, black is too bold, so that's when I use a color pad.

When I color, I tend to only use black.

Oh, and I LOVE my SU white ink pad. It rocks!

I use hundreds of colors. Thousands maybe, LOL. I love solid image stamps and 2-step stamping so I call it "Stamp-n-Go." No coloring, the ink pad does all the work for me. If you are big on outline stamps and coloring, you might want to sell colors you will never use.

I used to use only black ink, because I love colouring. But now I am starting to use more ink pad colours.

Depends on what I'm working on. But mostly I reach for my Palette Black ink or StazOn ink.

I'm on a coloring kick right now, so I'm mainly using black. But I love having the colors available if I want to use them!

Just finally finished my SU full size ink pad collection! I love having them available. I also have all the spots and all the markers, each has their own uses. I do love my Black inks though, I think I have 5 right now in regular rotation ;)

Every Tuesday there is a Color Challenge here on Splitcoast. So far, there have been 168 Color Challenges. Go take a look at the list and then check out a few of the related galleries.

I have found a lot of inspiration when doing the Splitcoast Challenges. It makes me try new things -- stretches my imagination.

I too tend to use my black pads more often. I have the watercolor crayons too, but honestly prefer to use the colored pads to watercolor with.

I am with you Mary Beth... I can't have enough colors! While running KSS, I also have 2 small boys and I wish I had the time to color (Ha!) .... so... 3/4 Step Stamping.... lets the ink do all the working for me ... a great way to make your own designer paper too!
Happy Stamping!

It depends on whether I'm going to color the image in or not, If I'm coloring in, I always stamp in black (usually stazon). I've gotten away from SU! Basic Black because it's not a true black, but I will use it with my blender from time to time.

I do love my watercolor pencils but I feel that the majority of my colors just sit there. I guess I should have gone with the spots instead of the full pads.

My current obsession is 3-4 layered stamping (as in Kitchen Sink Stamps) so it's color all the way!!!!

If you want to give your colored pads a workout order their Hearts & Roses or their new Hibiscus!!

I use black if only black will do.

I love brown. If brown absolutely will not work, then green (artichoke) or blue...

I love my colors.

Yup......what she said! I use my black or a dark color for coloring images in but when it comes to stamping something that I'm not going to color in then I use my colors. Think about stamps like two or three step stamps......you'd only use color with those. Usually stamps that are more solid.

For line images to colour, I usually use black, sometimes grey or brown. But I use my coloured pads all the time, I couldn't imagine not having them. I have mostly ColorBox chalks and pigment, but also quite a few Brilliance. I use them for sentiments, for chalking edges, for stamping solid images, and sometimes for line images if I emboss them so I can use wet colour, or else un-embossed just colouring with dry pencils. I've only got into solid images fairly recently, whereas I've used various coloured pads for some years.
But each to their own - if you find you don't really use them, there's nothing wrong with that if you're happy with they way you work. And if you really don't use them, not a lot of point in keeping them.

I use black, browns, and greys for outlines when coloring. I have almost all of the SU colors in classic and craft. If had to do it over again, I'd only buy the colors I use most often as some colors I never use. But, there is something to be said about being able to just reach up and grab any color that suits my fancy.

I thought I didn't use my colors very much until I started listing how I use them and I now see why I have a couple hundred stamp pads. I use them for solid stamps, shadow stamps, 2-step stamping, outlines when I don't want to color in the image and when I do color the image, distress looks, edging, and more.

hum...I use my ink pads on every single project I do. With that said...I rarely use SU! black. I always wipe the edge of my top layer with one of the main colors in that layer. I think it just makes for a finished look. Sometimes I wipe the edges sloppily...so it's more of a distressed look. I also use the ink pads a lot to make my own backgrounds...or polkadots....instead of using designer paper. I never dreamed anyone wouldn't use their ink pads all the time! I don't like the SU! black...it's too purple...so I use Palette Noir Black or Stazon Black.
