Default With the "in" colors of su,do you buy just paper?

I'm curious as to what people find works best. I really love some of the colors that are going out. The question is, do I buy just the paper, or do you really find that you use the ink color that goes with the paper? If you buy both the paper and ink pad, do you use the pad much once you use the paper up? This may sound picky, but with the price of everything going up, being a bit more cautious about purchases. Thanks in advance.

i only purchased the paper because i'm really into colouring images and i don't think i'll use the ink enough... but we'll see! maybe i'll love the colours, but for now, just the papers...

I just buy the paper and maybe the ribbon that goes with it. Hardly ever use the matching ink.

i buy the paper, ink and refills right away. mostly cause i get so excited at first. then, i might slowly buy ribbon for the colors that i like and use the most. when they are about to retire i but 1 or 2 packs of the assorted unless there is a specific color that i feel like i *need* a lot of for my stash. truth be told, i have tons of paper from the last three years that i don't use that much. although i have made a vow as i prepare for this years colors to explode to use some of that up

I buy the cardstock, ink and refills. Later, I buy ribbon. And right before it goes out, I buy a bit more cardstock so I have plenty on hand!

I buy the paper and the reinkers. I buy blank spots by the dozen and make my own. This way I can afford the *in colors* and other colors I may mix.

That sounds like me. For the '07 colors I ordered two packs of paper and still have plenty. My ink is starting to dry up and have no replacement. This year I ordered two ink refills and one pack of paper for each color.

I end up buying the ink pads, reinkers (3 of each color), and 3 pkgs of paper. Of course, most of this was just a recent purchase. I may overdo it, but I'd rather have it then regret it later. I wish I would have bought the pomegranate ribbon though, but it's too late now.

What I did last year (and will probably do this year) is bought all the ink pads (I can't live without matching ink) and then I get 2 packs of assorted cardstock. It's a good bit cheaper that way, and then I'll eventually get full packs of the colors I really like.

I do the same thing. I found myself annoyed when I didn't get all the stamp pads. I use my pads to watercolor with not necessarily stamp with, so I use them quite a bit.

At the beginning of the "in" year I buy a multi pack and all the reinkers, then I make my own pads from washed out $1 pads (ACMoore).

As the year goes on I stock up on the colors I won't want to live without (like this year it's soft sky), but just a pack or two. [[I find I don't use it as much as I think I will and there is a new version of the same soft blue coming out.]] Then I buy the actual SU pads only if it's a color that I think I'll regret not having around forever (like Cool Carribean). My old reinkers have lasted me more than 10 years so one bottle of and "in color" ought to do me for a good long while.

One thing to think about if you use non SU DP is that it's nice to have the "out" colors (when they are no longer "in" *wink*) to match a scrapbook page or a piece of DP from another company. For instance, I found a beautiful piece of Basic Grey paper that really matched Cranberry Crisp!

I buy all the inks and paper when they first come out, then everyone makes all kinds of really beautiful projects with all the "extras". So then I go out and buy all that stuff too! ;)

I've bought CS, pads and re-inkers every year. I've regretted it with a few colors....Cranberry Crisp, Vintage Violet to name two...yuck! I should probably offer them up for sale, because I know there are those who love those colors.

I bought the small inkspots and the refills. I'm using the refills for watercoloring too, so I'm not worried they would just gather dust on the shelf ;)

I buy the paper then if I truly love the color all year I'll buy the pad and a reinker. I buy the paper like gangbusters though, I LOVE paper. I don't care if it's my favorite color the idea of having the CHOICE is enough for me to have to own it. Somehow I don't have that with ink.

But then SU pads are not my most favorite pads so that's probably a factor.

Anyhow if I love the color a lot I will buy the pad. I have three SU pads total:
mint melody
cool caribbean
soft sky

I buy it all, but I am a demo! I was going to stock up like crazy because I LOVE the in colors about to retire, but I have a pretty good stash right now. Like most things that come and go, you think you can't live without it, but then something better comes along...so I am restraining myself from buying any more! LOL!

I'm still fairly new to SU, so I don't really have a In-Color-buying-system. From the colors that retire this August, I bought all the ink pads and some refills and cardstock. I only have the ribbon in two of the colors.

As to the original post, I don't think I'll ever just buy the paper. I'm lovin' sponging and inking edges, so...

first purchase is always the assorted pack of CS and the ink pads. this year I also went ahead and got extra single color packs of the colors I liked the most( Guava, rock and wasabi) plus DP in rock and guava.

currently less than thrilled with the new selection, but at the very least will get the assorted cardstock. They may grow on me...

I use the pads to color more than stamp.

I ordered the paper and ink pads when they first came out and then added ribbon as I went along. I love this year's In Colors so much so I just bought more cardstock and the reinkers. I also use the reinkers to do a lot of coloring.

I would really love to know where to get the blank spots and how much they cost. Also, how do you wash out the $1 stamp pads? THis sounds like the option for me. I want to have all the colors in the begining, but I can't afford to buy them all at once.

Exactly what I do. For ribbon, etc. I usually seek out other sources rather than buying the spools from SU.

I had these ink spots from a long time ago... http://www.createforless.com/Rubber+...pid104901.aspx that I just washed out. They aren't the best, but they do the trick. I just rinsed under water until the water ran clear, let dry for a bit, then added my ink from my reinkers.

You can get blank ones here : http://www.mardigourds.com/index.php...st316j66q1grv6

That is an interesting idea! Last time around (in colors from 2007/8 which are about to be retired), I bought all of the pads, a couple of the mixed 8.5x11 paper packs, and just broke down and bought the reinkers. My SU demonstrator reminded me that I could sponge white paper (or brayer) to get more "in color" paper if I ran out.

I think the idea of buying the empty spots and just the incolor reinkers is a great idea. That way you have the flexibility of reinkers and save a bit of money too.

Thanks for sharingthat idea!

I buy it all too...paper CS and ribbon....and then in the last month, I re-buy what i have used a lot of. I use the ink pads for watercoloring mostly, so it's great to have the perfect color match even when you color all your stamps.

Ladies, thank you for all your input. Definitely will buy the pads and reinkers. Though I like the idea of the spots, really like to use the full size pad. Now to make a final decision on colors........

I bought it all this year! Didn't last year and I think that is why I didn't use the paper as much. I have lots left over! Wish I had bought soft sky ink pad! So glad I bought River Rock! Got extra paper in that color, too!
