I just purchased the coluzzle tags templates from CTMH with the rotating blade cutter.....
I can not for the life of me get it to work. What am I doing wrong? (I hope that I am doing something wrong or it was a "coluzzle" waste of money)
Every time I try to make a corner or round out an edge in the pattern the blade cuts into the plastic template.
I am hoping that someone out there can give me the magic answer or I am way bummed. I have messed with this thing for over four hours now....
thanks.
When using the Coluzzle, you need to keep your knife straight up and down, not tilted or slanted. Move your whole arm and hand with the knife in it, NOT your wrist. The blade will catch into the plastic template everytime if these tips arent followed. Hope this helps. I love my coluzzle and use it regularly now that I know HOW to use it.
Hugs from the kamperstampr [email protected]
Don't know if this is part of your problem but it was for me. I found out the hard way that the templates are not translucent...they are crystal clear. They have a film on both sides that has to be removed. When that is done and you follow kamperstamper's advice, it should work great. I have lots of the templates now and use it all the time and love it!
I've posted this before on SCS and it seems to help those that read it but maybe not all. Give it a try, just click on the Coluzzle word and wait for a small video to load and it gives insturctions on the use of it.
I find it very easy to use but the templates are rated from simple to advanced and I did find some advanced styles not to my liking. To much stop and go to the procedure.
I have posted this before. YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE THE BLADE IS TIGHT. It loosens up easily, and will not work properly. Also make sure the white matte that comes with it is on the table underneath your paper and you use firm downward pressure.
I don't know if anyone else has run into this, but I find I get really raggedy cuts when I use mine. I use it straight up and down, the blade is tight...but I have to trim with scissors or use an emery board afterword. Maybe I need a bigger blade with SU cardstock?
You can also fix those nasty little nicks with commutatator paper - a wet sandpaper found in the automotive section! My DH sanded all mine for me!

Wendy, are you using the Coluzzle knife with blade that pivots? To my knowledge it only comes in one size.
The system is used with its own brand name knife, mat and template.
My friend didn’t know this and was using the wrong tools and wasn't getting good cuts.
Another friend saw the mat on sale and brought if for such a great price and she was cutting it up for pop ups on her card. I got a good laugh out of that one but there was a time when I wouldn't have known the difference either.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't know there was a film on the templates that had to be removed. I finally saw that the tatters on my template could come off. Duh! Works much better. I haven't had any trouble since then and use the Coluzzle for all my ovals frames.
I've had difficulty in the past with mine, too. After going to their website and watching the demo, I think my problem is that I don't have THIER mat. Does using their mat make much of a difference?

She absolutely right. This has happened to me before.
I always had tell tale edges on the places where you have to cut the paper after you remove the template. Hated those! I was using the other knife that came with the starter set to do those - one of the sliding hobby knives. So my template lines were great but you could see the trim area. I switched to scissors for the two nicks and have a better result.
Believe it or not - I find if I stand up when I'm doing the coluzzle - no probs. Go figure!!
I read on another board that one lady got her knife set in place closed her eyes and made the cut, worked great for her every time. Go figure that one out! It may be worth a try if you’re having problems.
Here's another tip. If you have a hard time when crossing over the notch to get it in the correct groove again, just color code each groove with a different color permanent marker. Then just try and remember what color you were in!!!

That's genius! I'm always having to stop and count the rings to remember where I was!
