I'm still pondering whether or not to go for it and get some copic markers. I'd like opinions on whether or not I will need the blender pen if I buy them. What are your experiences?
Sorry I'm no help with your question, but I would really be interested in hearing everyone's answer, and too boot I would really love to see a tutorial on how people are using the blender pen and how it works.
Thanks for a great question.

I just got my shipment of the 72A set of Copic Ciao markers today and it includes the blender pen. I pulled it out thinking it was a white marker since the cap is white, but it says "colorless blender pen". I bought the markers because of all the raves and beautiful examples here on SCS, but I have no idea really how to use them. I will also be waiting to hear views on the blender marker.
I like it, but dont always use it when I blend, I just do it with the different shades. The way it works is it kinda takes the color away, kwim? so you can use it to do dots or accents. I think I'd get it but it isnt super important.
Maybe you could PM...Jeanne S..she seems to be an expert and really knows her stuff when it comes to Copic Markers..
she could probably answer all your questions.
When I first starting using the Copics, I used the blender all of the time. I very rarely use it now.
You put color on a palette or cd with your markers. When you are coloring and want to add some shading, you take the marker you are using and touch it to the palette to pick up some different color. Once you color with it, the color you added will not be on the marker.
The ink on the palette will last forever! Easy to travel with it. If you want to clean it off, use rubbing alcohol.
When I use Gamsol with my colored pencils, I feel I am blending the colors. You are actually moving the colors around.
When I use my Copics, I feel I am adding colors or adding shading.
Say I am coloring a leaf with a light green, I'll pick up some yellow and some other shades of green to add to the leaf. Adding one color at a time.
Others may disagree, that is just my feeling.
Snowyowl, can you explain more about how you apply color with the Copics? You say you scribble onto a cd...do you use a brush to pick up the color from there and paint with it then?

I use a marker to pick up color from my palette. If I'm coloring something light blue and I want to add some lavender or a different shade of blue, I take the light blue marker and rub it on the color I want to pick up from the palette and color with it. The color you picked up will go on the paper and not remain on the marker. You can do the same thing with the colorless blender but if I have a marker in my hand, I don't take the time to cap it, put it down, uncap the blender, etc.
Any other questions, or if I didn't explain well enough, let me know.

I think you explained it very well
I use the blender pen for removing color. If I want to add color I do it just like snowyowl said.

Another great use for the copic blender... it removes color when use in a solid colored area... so you can use it to add highlights or to erase a tiny "outside the lines" mistake!
