We do have a DVD on using sketch markers, but it doesn't cover advanced techniques like what I just mentioned. We have a series of expanded DVDs that we're working on, but it probably won't be until 2009. As for a video tutorial- hmmm- I'll look into something.
I'm going to practice really saturating the paper. Maybe that's my problem, I'm just not using enough color so the paper stays wet longer. However, when an image cuts the sky area into 2 areas with an area at the top linking the two larger areas? Do you work on one side at a time? What do you do with the part at the top so as not to get a streak? I wish I could be sitting at your side watching the master!
It's not your marker, it's the paper. HOWEVER, on cardstock I went back over my E55 blob and the pale blue stuck to the paper, the brownish dye moved around. Same with regular copier paper. Looks strange. My E55 is almost new, so it doesn't need to be refilled. The next shade up or down looks fine, so I think it happens to be that the dyes to get that exact shade of brown don't like cardstock and they don't blend at the same rate as each other. I'll pass this on to Japan.
Thanks again for all of your advice. What paper do you use? I need some of that! I will also have to look into purchasing the markers above and below it. Thanks for all of your help.

I just use Neenah Cardstock, but like I say, it will act strange if you go over it with the blender as well.
Sorry for another question. I just did a search on Neenah cardstock and a variety of types come up-which one do you use? Also, where do you buy your paper from? I went to the Copic website and didn't see it there. Again, your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Jodi
We use Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80# cardstock. I don't know where other people get it, since we buy it through our printer paper supplier for our warehouse copiers. Try Georgia Pacific cardstock from walmart. I'm sad that PTI paper won't work for that one color, since they have such nice papers.
Hi
I have a bunch of Copics but am having a hard time with hair! What Copic color do you use for blondes, brunettes, & red heads? Thanks in advance for your help.
Have a great day, Jodi
What colors do you guys find work best for red heads? I have been wasting money (sadly) and buying copics aimlessly searching for the perfect combination for red hair and Its driving me crazy! LOL any suggestions? ANY help is appreciated, im about to give up :(
there are so many ways to build good hair. You won't find one perfect color- you'll need to layer to build up a natural looking combo.
a few good combos, IMO-
for flaming red hair, try YR09 layered with R24 or R27
For dark red-brown try YR09 with E08
For dark strawberry blonde, try Y11 streaked in with E34 and R14- keep streaking and layering these to build up your hair.
I really suggest taking a very light brown and making a few swatches. Streak into each swatch a different reddish, brown, or blonde color. This will help you find markers in your own collection that will build up to make a color you like. Then, WRITE IT DOWN! Keep a swatch book each time you blend two colors- you can quickly refer to it in the future. The above color suggestions were just from whatever random colors on my desk- your existing colors will probably give you good results if you layer them.

Oh my gosh THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!! This was so helpful! I got R27 and E08 (b/c by chance i had the other colors lol) and It made such a huge difference!!! You are my life saver! lol now i can finally finish this thing!
Thanks for all the helpful hints and tips. I have just acquired a set of copics and having endless fun practising. One of the problems I have is that the ink tends to bleed out of the image. I wait until the image has dried before starting to colour and have even left it overnight but it still happens. All suggestions are most welcome as to how to fix the problem.

What paper are you using? What ink are you using? One of these is most likely the problem.
These are so great pointers! Love the ideas for blending the sky. I use PTI paper and never have a problem. Not sure what is up with your marker/paper, Jodi. Have you tried the Georgia Pacific paper from Walmart? It works well, too.
Your paper should be fine, but I'm not familiar with that line of ranger inks, most people use the Adirondack Ranger ink when stamping with Copic markers. Is it your marker that's bleeding or the stamped line?

Its the marker thats bleeding through the stamped line. I shall go and buy some of the Adirondack ink and try that. Thanks for your help.
If it's the marker bleeding, but your ink line is fine, then it's the paper that is giving you problems. Color with an absorbent piece of scratch paper under the PTI paper, try not to color all the way to the line, or try a different paper.

You might also try Tsukineko's newest ink: Memento
I really like using it with Copic and found if I don't have time to use a heat-set pigment (Brilliance Graphite Black), it works fabulously, without feathering, even if I go over the lines inadvertently! :-D
It was not designed by Tsukineko specifically to work with Copics--more of a happy accident we discovered when they let us play with it over at the A Muse booth at CHA!
I like Adirondack ink, too, but, if I go over the image lines or even right next to them with my Copics, I can still get feathering (the ink feathers). :(

Hi, Marianne!
Like you, I heard it wasn't going to be on shelves until May, but, I've seen it available at some online retailers already, so I'm guessing that the product is trickling into b & m stores as we speak! Yay!

If people are using copics then they should RUN and get that new ink. I have a few luscious colors and they don't bleed at all with my markers- I have a tendency to POUR Copic blender solution onto my stamped images and it HOLDS UP BEAUTIFULLY!!!! I don't have the black yet, but the colors I do have are wonderful.
I am so glad to hear that they work well. I bought three from All that Scraps, they had the smaller size for $2.60. I don't think that is going to help my E55 issue but oh well. I guess I need to make a stop at Walmart for the other paper. I am hoping the Copic class will be announced soon for the Seattle area. Then I can bring my marker and show it. Thanks for all of the help.

Marianne, Just had to post some good news. Thanks to your help and advice on this thread, something just clicked in my head and I am finally getting wonderful blending with the copics! I am so excited. Thank you for your help and answering all my questions. Now I'm going to be coloring everything in sight. Must get more copics!!!!!!!!;)

Other great news - Yay me!! I also stopped at Jerry's Art store and got 6 Copic Markers to play with. One of these days I'll get brave and order a set. Brave when my hubby won't ground me for spending more money! LOL
I have been using colored pencils, CTMH markers and SU markers for coloring my images and I don't like the way the come out. I have been wanting to try Copics but don't know which type would be better for a beginner to use. Any advice on which color set to start with or which style?
