I haven't done a whole lot of research but what are the pros of each one to use for cardmaking? I do know you can emboss with the cuttlebug which I like. I would like to invest in one, I am thinking of the cuttlebug.
Price for one. Cricuit is about 100 bucks more. I just bought a Bug yesterday in Delaware with a 50% coupon at Mikes. I also had a 40$ gift card from my boss, so I paid $0 for it!! I couldn't resist that!! I do hear that Mikes' and Joann's will no longer take the coupons on them however. Not sure when it goes into effect. The other factor you may want to consider is the dies for the cricuit. They run about 70$-90$ ea. The bug's dies are $12.99. You can obviously get alot of $ wrapped up in the Cricuit, and I just wouldn't use it enough to justify that much money. HTH. Karen.
I only have the cricut, but wanted to add that although the cartriges are higher for it, Wal-mart does have them for around/under $60.00 now and one cartridge has numerous design possibilites. Plus you can change sizes!
I love love love my Cricut. I use it for cards. I like to scrapbook, but I don't have enough time right now to do that. I am excited to use the Cricut for the cards.
Here are 2 cards I made with the Cricut. The first one has flowers (all sizes on there) and the tag made by the Cricut. The second one uses the letters cut from the Cricut.
Oh! I meant to say that I got my new cartridge for the Cricut for $59. Also, it won't go bad or wear out. Yes, I get more blades and mats, but those don't cost that much. I love the versatility of the Cricut. Just my $.02 worth.
I got a cricut for Christmas thanks to my DH and I make lots of cards and what little I have got to experiment with it, it is great!!! Does anyone know if it will cut through thin cardboard? Is this was is call chipboard? Sandra
Those are beautiful cards. I don't have either however I have read in one of the threads here somewhere that there area rumors of major changes in the Cricut in the spring. So you might want to postpone your decision in case you either want the new improved model, or you can pick up the original model at bargain prices. They are pricey IMO.
DUH, I read above post and see what everyone has said so far, just wondered if anyone else had Revolution and could compare notes with me...still like the idea of the cricut, guess, I need to find a Cuttlebug somewhere to look at too...I like to have hands on and SEE it to BELIEVE it!
I now have the revolution and cuttlebug and xyron die cut machine.I love toys! The revolution only works on quickutz. Quickutz is supposed to come out with words to die cut. Cuttlebug will not work on the Revolution, I broke the my original machine. The Cuttlebug works great for embossing and their die cuts/embossing folders are priced very cheaply. The cricut is nice however my friend has had problems with the mats and paper used to to die cut. She stated its too much work and frustration.
Hi - New here! Also soon to be a new SU consultant (sent my paperwork off yesterday). I have both the Cuttlebug and Cricut and they do different things. I'd not trade either of them. I got my Cricut at Mikes when they had a kickin' sale $179 but get everything else for it at walmart because they are WAY cheaper (unless you have Mikes coupons). The cuttlebug you can use both cuttlebug things and SIZZIX things in it (I have the Sizzix also). The Cricut is great for doing phrases and letters and more!
My newest toy that I'm waiting on is the Xyron Design Runner! I love toys too! I call these MOMMIE'S TOYS!
I agree with Kimmie-99 the cuttlebug and Cricut are hard to compare because they are so different. I too have both and love them both. I don't scrapbook very much so I use my cricut mainly for cards. I do a lot of party invitations for other people so I needed something that can help me do quantity fast. The cricut is excellent for that. I can have it cut all the pieces I need for my cards in about 5 minutes for all my cards and then can quickly assemble my cards. When I was using the die cut machine it would take forever to change out the dies and then slide the paper through. It is so nice to have all the features on a keyboard type out what I want and change the size with just a click of a button and it cuts it out so fast. However, like another poster, I have heard there are big changes coming out with the cricut. I was talking to a store owner who attended CHA and she said that the rumor there was that in the spring they are going to unveil a cricut that can cut 12 inches both ways - I am sure it will be expensive!! Hope that helps.
I've had my Bug since Monday and so far, I'm not using my dies much, but I am lovin' the embossing folders! Cricut can't do that. (But I know it does a lot of other cool things.) I thought I wanted a Cricut, but I think really I just wanted a new toy and the Bug is fun!
Anyone have problems with the Cricut not cutting through SU papers? That has kept me from buying one as I mostly use SU papers. When I was able to play with one, it wouldn't slice through the thicker papers. I was just wondering what everyone else thought.
The cricut does so many other things that neither the Sizzix or Bug can do I think but they each have their uses I can definitely see that.
As for cutting thru thick papers I had to actually adjust the blade before putting it in the machine. There are numbers at the top also as to how far it sticks out and all. Play with that. Then the dials on the left side - one is for thickness of paper (from thin to thick) and top one is for speed. You wouldn't want to use a higher speed cutting with papers like vellum.
I am sooooooo excited, I just called my local Michaels, and they just got some Cuttlebugs in...they had a wait list, but now I have one with my name on to pick up after work !!! Can't wait to play tomorrow!!!!!

i've had NO problems cutting through SU! paper.. that's all I use.
All you need to do with thicker papers like SU's and Bazzill papers is to set the blade speed and depth to 5. It'll cut right through them.
Ok, I see. I think the lady at Michael's said she had it on the highest setting though... Hmmm??? I'm just so afraid to spend the money and then not be able to use it, you know? I don't do scrapbooking so much, just cards. Thanks for your input. I appreciate it! :-D
My Michaels will not honor the 40% coupon because they keep saying it is a cricut product, and I argued w/them it is a provocraft product...but to no avail...:(

I have had my Cuttlebug for a year and love it. Decided that I also want the Cricut so dear hubby got it for me. I am also very pleased with it. So far it seems that the Cuttlebug will continue to be ideal for cardmaking but the Cricut has functions more suited for scrapbooking. I use 12x12 pages and the variety of letter sizes is wonderful. Also you can cut 12 inch long zig zag or scallop borders and perfect squares, rectangles, circles and ovals...perfect for scrapbooking. I really think having both is great. Hope you like which ever one you decide on.

I just got the CB for Christmas and I LOVE it. I think for the price it's the best deal and you can do so much with it. I love the embossing folders! So far it seems really easy to use and takes up very little space since it folds up! I can just tuck it away in the corner when I'm done. The nesties work really well in it too. Good luck deciding but I vote for the bug!
I am new to card making and scrapbooking. My ultimate plan to make nice cards until i get good enough to scrapbook my wedding and chronicle my 10 track and field career. My wonderful husband (who sees that I have really found something that I may never like as much as track and field but it is a start) has told me that he will either buy me a cricut or a cuttlebug. I figured since cricut carts are 90 bucks each (kind of a poor crafter) and cuttles are a little less, the cuttle might be a good way to go. But I really want to start getting into new shapes like circles (want to start doing alot of shapes) for my cards. I just don't know which one of these I want my husband to get. Oh...and my husband says he will save the money to get what I want. Also, is this the best website to learn things for a newbie like me.
I happen to own both...I use my cuttlebug for embossing only...The reason I only use it for embossing is because over time it will cost you more money to buy several diecuts... Where as the Cricut... you buy 1 cartridge and you can cut dozens of sizes.... I've never ever paid more than $35.00 for a cartridge... I buy my cartridges online at customcrops.com and I buy on Ebay... I also purchased the Cricut Expression off of Ebay...I get Free Shipping from Ebay and I got it much cheaper than any store would offer it for! So if you just want to emboss then go with the cuttlebug....I've seen it priced around $49...but if you just want dye cutting go with the cricut.... it's worth the cost in the long run.... Many people can tell you that... Or take your time and get both when you can afford it...they both get used often in my house... I couldn't live without either one!
I'd buy a Big Kick/Big Shot over the Cuttlebug. The BK/BS is less tipsy and it takes more sizes of dies than the CB.
As for manual diecutters (CB/BK/BS/Wizard) vs a Cricut, that depends upon how many different shapes you think you'll really use. I love Nesties and embossing folders/plates. If I had to choose one machine over the other, I'd probably give up my Cricut before my Big Kick.
I have both the Cricut and Cuttlebug. Love them both! I use the Cuttlebug mainly for embossing I have a few cutting dies for it, my Cricut gets used all the time, I especially love it to cut letters for things I monogram.
Hubby also suprised me with a Quickuts Revolution and some dies and lately I've been using it quite alot along with my Cricut and Cuttlebug.
I know this is not a lot of help lol I did buy my Cuttlebug first and used it for about 6 months before I bought my Cricut, if you are thinking of eventually getting both get the cuttlebug first.
I have both but love the embossing the CB can do so I'd pick my cuttlebug over my cricut. It's all in what you love to do the most. CB can die cut and emboss both but only die cut one size. Cricut can cut many sized items and has lots of die cuts on one cartridge but cartridges are very expensive unless you get them on sale.
