I read somewhere on this board that you can use a pasta machine with the cuttlebug embossing folders. Well, I already had the pasta machine (that I paid $10 for at Michaels) so I stopped today and bought the cute little doggy embossing folders. I tried it as soon as I got home and it WORKED!! So darn CUTE and I don't have to fork out the money for the machine!
REALLY!!! Is this true :o I have had a pasta machine for a couple of years and only used it once before we learned we can't eat wheat based product :( How does it work? I would really love to know how you did it. I have been interested in the cuttle bug or sizzix or other die cut machines, but hate the prices. Please post how you did it. TIA, Sandy O
What a neat idea! I don't have a pasta maker or a cuttlebug, but I bet I can find a pasta maker pretty inexpensively. Does this only work for certain models of pasta makers? What one do you have?
Thanks-Amy
The pasta machine that I use is the one from the craft dept. used to flatten clay. It works great with the embossing folders & mcuh cheaper than a cuttlebug if all you want to do is emboss. It's a great alternative.
The pasta machine I used is made by Amaco. I bought it years ago at Michaels with a 50% off coupon which made it only $10. It is in the aisle where they sell polymer clay.
I simply cut my paper to the size of the embossing folder, set the machine on 6, put the folder between the rollers and cranked the handle. Voila! There are so many cute embossing folders to choose from too!
I have tried a rolling pin and didn't have much luck with it. You have to put a LOT of pressure. And I didn't get it to emboss very crisply. I think I'll try my pasta machine though. I haven't used my pasta machine in years, lol.
Before I got my BigKick I was trying to be clever and thought I could save my money. I bought some cutting pads and a die and tried to see if the rolling pin and my weight would be enough. Didn't work.
I could not getting the rolling pin to work. I tried my pasta machine with the embossing folders . . .it works great. I dont think the cutting dies would work. I have an Imperia and used the 2nd widest setting.
I have a pasta machine I bought specifically for the CB. It was at a kitchen store and I paid like $15!! I tried the rolling pin and couldn't get enough pressure.
You have to play around a little with the settings. I marked mine with a black sharpie where I like it for the embossing folders and for the dies. It's so great not to have to buy another appliance like the CB!! My DH was pleased, too at how much $$$ I saved!
