Default Ditch the E6000!

I was talking to a lady who came to my sale last week. She creates glass art and USED to use E6000. She said that it is known to cause cancer and heart problems. Sheesh!!! I think that she was really serious because she HAS had heart problems. I did find the MSDS here: http://www.imperialinc.com/msds0075050.shtml

And it does say that it causes cancer. Glad I never bought any of the stuff. Makes my gamsol look like nothing!!

if you follow the directions and only use it in a well ventilated area then you are not at risk.

I think that these days we are throwing the baby away with the bathwater. Rather than following directions on how to use things we either have them taken away by the government or we choose to not use them. It's just easier right? Because people can't follow dosing directions we can't buy cold medicine for babies now...it's getting a bit ridiculous.

I just found it incredibly coincidental that the lady who had been using it A LOT with her craft of building glass tables had a heart problem. She was quite adamant about the problem and recommended another adhesive in it's place but it was mega expensive. It was 'hexol' or something spelled like that....I can't find my notes right now. If there is something that is as good and safer than I say go for it!

She probably used it often and in an unventilated area. You can also get chemical pneumonia from the use of certain cleaning supplies in a closed in area. A friend of my mothers died from that a few years ago. You have to be very careful with any chemical that gives off fumes...most can cause harm with constant and or improper use. If you find the name of the adhesive she recommended please post it. I do have the E6000, but I rarely use it.

my husband just told me that our new Christmas lights have the same warning as my tube of E6000 "contains a chemical known in the state of California to cause cancer". are you going to stop decorating for Christmas too?

not trying to be argumentative...but you really have to draw the line somewhere....everything causes something these days....breathing...eating...drinking water...everything is dangerous on some level.

You can't go by California's guidelines, they say breathing is carcinogenic. On the flip side I used to be a chemist and there's a lot of nasty stuff out there people use and don't think twice about. Really, household cleaners shouldn't be used inside either but that's hard to do when you're cleaning a toilet. Here's more detailed info on the carcinogen in E6000 (tetracholroethylene):

Now that's funny!

This is the reason I love SCS. Lots of people with lots to offer in the threads. I agree you can't be over the top but you can be aware!

I can't use it because the smell of it really, really bothers me.

I wish I knew what held as well.

I talked to the lady again and she said that she now uses Hextol. It sounds like you mix it like an epoxy and it is about the consistency of Karo syrup. I don't think it would work very well with some of the stamping projects that we use E6000 for. She uses it for glass to glass pieces.
