Default Foam tape

Where can I buy foam tape? Is it the same as the stuff for door and window drafts?

I get mine in the framing section at Michael's, it's made by 3M, you can also usually find it at office supply stores. It's not the same as insulation foam.

The foam tape I buy is by 3M. It can be found in the craft section and home sections of Target also. The foam tape might be found at WalMart in these sections but I don't have a Walmart very close to me so can't be certain. Don't to now if the tape is acid free so read before you buy if this is a necessity.

That's what I use, too - definitely go for the better brand (I like 3M) rather than a cheaper option - those will gum up your scissors.

You might also be able to find foam tape at the 99cent store, if you have one in your area. Or purchase at Scrapbooking Supplies | Discount Scrapbook Supplies, Stickers & Paper.

I buy mine with a coupon at Michaels and/or Joann's. It's in the scrapbook adhesives section at my stores. You can also find it at Staples, Office Depot, etc. I think the 3M brand is acid free since it was originally designed for mounting photos.

I received some of the cheaper foam dots in a gift exchange once. I didn't use them right away and when I was, they no longer had any stickem. I would stick with the name brands - you might pay more at the outset but you won't be-purchasing because they no longer stick. You could add adhesive to them but they were too little for me to bother.

I prefer the foam tape because it is easy to cut the foam to any size you need.

To avoid scissors sticking when cutting adhesive foam I used Cutterbees Nonstick little scissors. Nothing sticks to these things, they're great. The blades are black (the non stick coating)

sometimes I make my own sticky foam. I bought a pack of foam sheets from Wal Mart, in lots of colors, then I cut a strip slightly less than 1", run it through the Xyron X style adhesive thing. I get custom colored foam pieces for very little money.

Hope that helps

I make my foam tape this way too. It bugs me when I make a project and I can see that white foam tape on my black cardstock. I wanted colors to match my projects. I was using Xyron X but I started using Aleene's Fast Dry Tacky glue. That glue keeps the foam on your creation like a rock. I was really impressed the first time I tried it.

When using regular foam tape I use the foam tape from the hardware department. I don't know if it's acid free. Also I am pretty sure that Aleene's is not acid free either if your working with something archival.

I didn't know Aleene's was MIA. I do know Aleene's | ilovetocreate.com is the one who distributes her glue products.

All my big box craft stores carry her glue. I also buy it at WalMart. Amazon of course carries all the glue too.

Oh I feel like a goof. ! I have been thinking of this thread today and thought something happened to her. I was going to ask my Mom. I never got to see her show but I heard it was one of the best crafting shows ever on TV.

I use 3M Mounting Tape #4010 from True Value hardware stores. It comes on a roll, 1 inch wide by 60 inches long, for $4.79. The outter wrap is red but the "foam" is actually clear. I like best that it NEVER comes undone and it is thinner than most mounting tapes, so the image is elevated just enough so mailing is not a problem. I also like that I can cut it into very slim strips or tiny pieces and still be sure it will not come loose.

There are several 3M Mounting tapes so the number 4010 is important if you prefer CLEAR . This same tape is a bit less expensive in grey, but I don't have that number.

I am specifically looking for 3/8" wide and 1/16" thick foam mounting tape. Can anyone help me find it? I've been looking at a few of the stores listed above, but can't find what I'm looking for. I'm in Canada, so the store has to be able to ship as well.
Thanks!

I am so delighted to find this thread. I have read where gals were using sticky tape for their card projects but all I thought about was the kind Stampnf1 mentioned. Hip Hip Hooray! This site is the best! Now I know 3M 4010 at the hardware store is the place to shop! Who would have thunk?!
