Fiskars Embossing Texture Plates & Texturing tool? What about the Wavy Paper Crimper? Do you like them? Do you use them in your card making?
My DH works at Fiskars and I am going through their craft catalog making a list of the items I'd like to order, but I wasn't sure about these. What do you think?
TIA for any input.

I've used both. I don't use the fiskers embossing thing much. I use the wavy crimper alot more. I guess I just don't think about the embossing plates much. Guess I should, maybe I'll try it again one of these days! If you were me, you would get one of everything! I have no self control!
I love the texture plates! They are great for embossed backgrounds. I don't use the texturing tool though. I use the Empressor embossing tool with it. I think it works better.
Don't mean to interrupt but if any one knows how I can reach Fiskars customer service I would appreciate it. My trimmer is not working properly and Michael's said I must contact Fiskars directly. It is nice to know that their customer services is good.
I have both sets and I love them for use with my Wizard machine. I used them in it last year for my Christmas Cards by making a polka dot embossed background paper for the snowman overlay. The only thing is I wish you could fit an entire 1/4 sheet for a completed card background.

I'm all about techniques and tools that are EASY to use, and the crimper is that. I like it a lot. It adds flair, and for the work it takes, you can't beat it. I have the plates, but that's a hassle to get it out and set it up. One day......
Use your Michael's coupon and get a crimper. Now they have ones that make wavy lines, etc. I just have the "old" style one.
I am jumping in here and giving you a tip for the Textures Plates
You can make very interesting Backgrounds with these by heat embossing with them
basically you you the plates as a stamp!
I cover mine with Versa mark lay a piece of CS over it holding it firmly down rub all over then turn right side up, cover with emb powder and heat as normal.
I have most of the plates the only set that I have not got are the ones with the snowflakes, these plates are getting really difficult to find in the UK :( same with their brayers as well.
Love the plates, hate the tool!!!!!!! Get an Empressor instead......just remember to rub the paper you're embossing with waxed paper first, makes it easier!

This is exactly why I got the wizard. To be honest though, I really haven't used it. The tan rubber pad isn't big enough and I'm finding it pretty fustrating. I wonder why they didn't just make that as big as the universal white embossing/cutting plates.
Also, I have several of the texture plates and the three pronged embossing tool. I also have the shape box light box. I just don't use them enough to recommend them to you.
I like my plates, tool not so much. And about the size, Fiskars is originally from Finland and maybe they use the european card size as a referense? I know I have to make my CS for card by cutting ours smaller, maybe that has something to do whith it...? I like to use mine on fimo and cernit too, but thats another story...
I have two sets of plates and like them when I use them. I use the texturing tool because for me it is a lot quicker and easier than trying to feel the pattern with a stylus through the paper. With all that said, I think I bought my texture plate stuff three years ago and since them I've used them 2 or 3 times. But those times I used them, boy were they perfect for my card!!
I have some of the heat and mold foam that I used with the embossing plates. I made an impression of the hearts and used it as a background stamp for Valentines a few years ago. When you reheat the foam, you can impress it in a different texture. The crimper is great also, you can see lots of cards in the gallery that use it.
I have the 2 original sets of texture plates, and found a new set recently! It has paw prints and "critters" (frogs, etc) as one of the images. I work with special needs children, and use them mostly to do crayon rubbings.
Barbara - thanks for the embossing idea! That's so cool - I'll have to try it!

If you get the shop at home, they are having a craft day today. They are selling the new set of plates (the critters, paws etc). They have already demonstrated them this hour, but they might repeat it this afternoon and you could see it used.
You do not need a lightbox for the texture plates. A lightbox is usually used for brass stencils.
My friend hosted a crop one night, and she had the texture plates...I wasn't terrible impressed. I'm glad I played with hers before rushing out to buy my own.
I took a chance and ran the texture plates through my Big Shot die cutter and although it was very tight going through the first couple of inches and you have to turn the handle hard, the cards came out great. Just use the regular sandwich recipe for the machine with the plate instead of a die.
