Question HELP! Creating Wedding invitations several ???

My DD is getting married in Nov. She asked me to make her wedding invitations. I've traveled the internet taking a look and looked at the SCS Gallery.

What I want to do: Simple, classic, put it all together to save money.
What I don't want to do: print or stamp

I don't mind ribbon or cutting diecuts to emboss and use to hold the strip (if it is paper) around the invite.

We will need to make 100 invites.

The wedding will be in the Fall at Biltmore in Asheville, NC...so ideas will be appreciated for a Fall wedding....we are thinking leaves....raffia, maybe.

This is one of my gifts to her, so, no, I do not want to have someone else make them for me.

Questions:
1. What kind of pricing should I expect: My limit is $3.00 per invite with RSVP enclosure. I would would prefer less.
2. What websites are good for purchasing quality materials at an excellent price.
3. What bumps in the road did you experience that had you known you could have avoided.

TIA

Carol

Oh boy...I am in the same situation as you except we're doing a wedding for our daughter in October. I have just under 200 invitations to make on top of the "save the date" cards we need to get out soon.

I ordered our cardstock from discountcardstock.com. I just got my paper yesterday and it all seems decent enough for what we need. It would have cost well over $1,200 just to have some company make everything for us plus the cost of mailing. I spent $200 on the paper and have enough to do all the save the date cards and full sets of invitations and the pocket they will go in plus the envelopes. Figure another $100 at most for printer ink. And another $250 for stamps. I'll be able to do these for around $500. I was going to order SU paper, but it would have been $200 just for the save the date cards.

The save the date cards will be a single piece on chocolate and mango layers and a ribbon across the top (see copy attached). We're still brainstorming the invitations but I've already made the template for the pocket all the pieces will go in (invitation, RSVP card w/ stamped envelope, directions, etc). If you search for a gate fold or pocket fold envelope you'll see what it looks like. I was able to look at it and figure out the cuts/folds to make my own. Each one uses a 12x12 piece of cardstock.

I am printing everything on my printer. I downloaded the Barque Motifs set from SU and changed the colors to coordinate w/ the paper.

Thank you for your response! I have a lot of thinking to do...

Your "Save the Date" is beautiful. DD ordered darling magnets for her save the date, so I won't have that to do.

I'll look at the pocket ones to see if I think I can tackle it all.

Our wedding is in Oct, as well. Looking forward to touching base throughout the year with you!!

Carol

Keep the ideas coming, folks. I want to hear as many details as you guys have to offer.

I remember when I went through it & spent hours on end looking through blog after blog to get some ideas. Thank goodness I didn't do the invitations but it might have been fun! A little something that maybe will jump start your creative juices. Hope this helps...good luck!

My son is getting married in May, (destination wedding, Key West!) and we made the invitations in December; they went to the post office today to check on postage and yike's, they're going to cost about $1.39 each to mail! Luckily it's only about 70 that they're sending out; we found beautiful paper and envelopes here: Aqua Lagoon Metallic Pocketfold Invitation Card, 6 1/4 Himalaya - Paperandmore.com
We bought the 11x17 paper and brought it to Staples; I think they charged about $6 to make 2 cuts so that we had main piece for the 5.5x5.5 pocket card, a strip we used to cut squares for a tag and the other cut will be used for the thank you cards.
we made a pocket fold similar to that shown on the linked page; the shimmery paper and envelopes are sooooo pretty! I'm anxious to get mine in the mail and hoping it comes through in good shape, (we used raffia to hold them closed). I think with the envelopes and postage, we spent about $300 on the invitations, reply cards and thank you cards.

My cousin got married a month ago and I made all her wedding invitations. I made 350 invitations, plus 3 insert cards for the invitations. I have a few tips.

1. Buy your cardstock from Anchor Paper. Especially if you are buying metallic paper, you will save a TON of money. Paper and More and Cut Cardstock both quoted me around $90 for enough paper to make the bases of the invitations. Anchor Paper quoted me $45.53 for all of the purple shimmer cardstock. Literally half the price, and that was WITH the cutting fee.

Shop at Anchor Paper

2. Have your cardstock cut to the size you need it. It will save you endless time over cutting it yourself.

3. Get helpers but choose ones who either follow directions well or know something about crafting. Don't recruit too much help, or it becomes stressful trying to make sure they all do the assembly correctly.

4. Give yourself plenty of time so you aren't rushed. Do the project in stages. Sort the paper one day. Score it one week. Emboss next, etc.

5. Invest in a scor-pal if you don't already have one. It will make scoring go much, much faster over other methods.

7. Buy a rubber stamp with your return address or print them on the computer. It saves lots of time.

8. Make a sample and weigh it, including envelope and insert cards. Reduce the weight if you can, to keep your postage costs low.

All told, it cost about $125 for all the materials, including adhesive and envelopes, to make 350 invitations, not including postage. We kept the weight down and paid only for one stamp on each envelope. We bought the envelopes from Anchor paper as well.

My cousins' wedding invitations are in my gallery - here is one of them:
