How do you pronounce CRICUT? Crycut or cricket? I was wondering as the sales clerk at AC last night called it cricket & I'd never thought to say it that way. Just wondering. thanks!

Phonetically it is Cry-cut. It is the most annoying thing to me to see that the pronunciation goes against all phonetic rules. Just a pet peeve of mine.
When I first started reading about them, I pronounced it crycut. Then a friend was telling me about this new product, a cricket. It took me a while to realize it was the same thing. So now I know it is called cricket, but I can't help but pronounce it crycut in my head when I read it. And sometimes when I say it. To make things easier, I bought the CraftROBO. I know how to pronounce that. ;-)

I know that it is "cricket" now, but I still can't stop calling it crycut. I think it's because I'm a teacher and this is just the way it is phonetically supposed to be!

I think they call it the "cricket" because it chirps when it is working . . . .and they spell it that way because then it can have the word cut in it. But I could be wrong and I doubt that is any comfort to those who love phonics!

And they wonder why kids have trouble reading.... ugh... on the bandwagon too... If they wanted it pronounced CRICKET, then they should of written it as CRICKET not CRI-CUT..... shaking head...

Thank you!!! This is TOTALLY me. It pains me to say "cricket" when it reads cry-cut. LOL! Glad I'm not the only one with this struggle.

It's supposed to be a cute pun, since its function is as a cutting tool. The logo is a little green cricket, so that's probably how it came about. Bothers me just a bit, too, but companies do it all the time when naming their products. Maybe adding the hyphen might have helped to make it more obvious?

I'm on the crycut bandwagon...I think it was a post on here that made me think it was pronounced cricket. Its hard to get the first pronunciation you use out of your head!
I said crycut until I overheard peeps at the LSS saying cricket. I felt totally stupid!
Don't feel stupid. I did too, and I'm a reading teacher. It's phonetically spelled to say crycut. But I often tell my students that names don't have to follow rules. :cool:

Even regular English has weird phonteics.
What's with all these words?? They're spelled the same...
Bough = bou
Cough = kawf
Dough = doh
Rough = ruhf
Sough = sou or suhf
tough = tuhf
