Default IKEA Must Haves?

I'm building into my time at the Atlanta Regional to visit the IKEA store. (We won't get one in our area until 2009! :( ) Anyway, my wonderful DH has just relinquished his big in-home office for a smaller space to give me my very own stamping room! Yes, I love him dearly-- but I digress.

I want to make the most of my IKEA pilgrimage, so what do I need to check out by way of organizational stuff? So far on my list is the spice racks for the glass jar ribbon/embellishment storage. Anything else I must check out???

Thanks for your ideas!

ummmm...everything!! I love Ikea! I like the canvas "boxes" they have, they are intended for drawers (to separate socks, etc) - can't remember what they are called, but they are like $7 for a set of several. The Stackebo dvd holder mounts on the wall and will hold ink pads. I have tons of their magazine holders for my catties, mags, etc. They have a $9 cutting board that is double sided, and has a little lip so it will stay in place on your counter/table - I have one for the kitchen and one for my craft room (so I don't ever trash my table!)

Have fun!!!

I got a whole bunch of those cardboard magazine holders. They come in a 2-pack for 49 cents! I use them to organize all my stamping magazines, but I suppose you could also use them to organize cardstock as well.

Check out the wooden (unfinished) dvd holders. These are great to hold stamp pads on the wall. I have one dvd holder for each colour family plus one for the in colours.

I've got some of those canvas boxes, too. Except we use them to organize all the plastic food in my daughter's play kitchen. They are AWESOME! You get a pack of 6 of them for $8, 2 each of three sizes: 11" square, 5.5" square, and 5.5" x 11" rectangle. When you're not using them, they fold down flat for storage. I am SO getting more of them the next time we make it to an IKEA store...

My house is practically another showroom for IKEA. In my craft room I have:

The spice shelves and BURKEN jars for embellishments- they are fantastic.

MOTORP boxes (brown/bamboo weave boxes meant for DVDs). These keep my stamp sets in order

LINGO magazine holders for all my idea books and magazines.

SAMLA (1 gal size) clear boxes -lid purchased separately. These keep my envelopes nice and dust-free. I also use these to transport supplies to workshops/stamp-a-stacks. One holds all the stamps, ink, embellishments for one project. They also fit nicely stacked in a large tote bag.

Magnetic strips and panels for the walls.

My kids craft table and chairs are from IKEA (can't remember the name)

Also, at our IKEA some castle themed shelves went on sale in the childrens area recently. They work great for punches, etc...and since I share my craft room with the boys, it works for my theme.

Hope this helps!:-D

I'd love to hear what you come home with! I'll keep my fingers crossed that they have what you want in stock!

I don't use this method, but I read somewhere that you can use their pot-lid-holders to hold your punches. You just screw the pot-lid-holders into the wall, and then put the punches on them by sliding it into the space in between the bottom of the punch and the punch lever. I hope that makes sense to you!!!

I have three of the Robin Dressers/cabinets. They have eight drawers that fit our SU boxes Perfectly. I have all the stamp sets in there by category. No pulling off a shelf and they all fall on top of me. I also have some of their mini drawers which are perfect for reinkers and another one is perfect for markers or small individual stamps. my work table is a converted computer desk table. It is big enough to have plenty of room to work on.. and the keyboard drawer is where I store my cutters.

I love my IKEA stamp room. I could go on and on..

oh and they have a nice desk top organizer which I put all my "use everyday" items like stamp cleaner, watercolor pencils, ruler, punches etc.. LOVE IT!

I'll post a pic of my IKEA craft room in my gallery tonight.

It's not stamping related, but they have awesome wooden hangers that are great for skirt and pants. I think you get 8 for $3!

The Stripa Shelving- saw it here on a previous thread and they're perfect for anything you can think of! Display, punches, pretty jars w/embellishments. They are about 4" deep and mount to the wall simply. Also, someone mentioed the magnetic strips- or you can get a magnetic bulletin board in silver or white if you prefer a larger surface. In the kitchen organization, near the pot racks, etc, there are metal rods that mount to the wall and you hang misc items from w/hooks- well! They have the cutest round pails w/blk hangers that fit my handheld punches, scissors, pens/pencils and there's a paper towel hanger that hooks on as well- very handy! I just went last week and bought a bunch o' stuff but they were OUT of the Stackebo dvd holders!!!! The original purpose for me going! :(

I'll post a pic as soon as it's all assembled. Can u tell i love Ikea?

I have the white "Flyt" magazine holders. They're 3 for $2.99, but they're much less flimsy than the Pappas (49 cent) ones.

I have and Antonius unit that I love. Mine is 6 baskets tall and I have the white top on it. It's the perfect height to put my paper cutter on. You can also get cloth baskets instead of metal ones. They're nice and deep. Next time I take a trip to IKEA I'm getting another.

The Ikea store is north of the World Congress Center (where Regionals will be). Here is a the link from the Ikea web site.

If you've never been to Ikea, it is HUGE and can be very overwhelming. My best advice to you is make a list of what you're looking for and allot at least a few hours to shop.

Sarah....

Default Ikea Hint

When I went I took an ink pad or two. I'm glad I did. The DVD holders that other talked about on here didn't fit the ink pads. I really wanted those, but settled for drawers there that fit the pads perfectly. I put labels on the drawers and it works well.

Good luck and have lots of fun!!!

just buy the whole store. It's all wonderful!!
II finally got my stamp room organized, and all it took was one truck, and a trip to IKEA! all my links are from the Ikea Canada site. so don't be surprised if when you go prices are cheaper.
My vote, the dvd holders, http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/store...umber=60077572
the cd holders look identical, so watch out! the cd's holders WILL NOT fit an SU! ink pad, the "Strippa" shelves ( I used them to store my stamps on so I can see them all) skinny little things. http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/store...umber=50114382
"lack" shelves. they are the floating ones. Oh! so nice. http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/store...umber=00103630
the magazine holder thingys, you can get them in anything from cardboard for like $2.99 for five, up to $10 for two wooden super cute and decorated ones. http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/store...59&cattype=sub
OOOOOO, go look in the kitchen section. I found these super cute things, hmm, let me see if I can find the link...
http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/store...103&langId=-15
I LOVE this line of products, I use wall and it organizes and stores things like my punches, my markers, pens, sponges ,rollers, cleaners, basically the essentials I need at hand. AWESOME!! and cheap! I love cheap!!
Anyway.
I love IKEA!!! It's my favorite store, the storage ideas are awesome, and so is the in store restaurant. Try the salmon. yum!
Happy shopping!!!

Ladies, you're incredible! Sara-- I'll be going down in an SUV so wish me luck! If I get there and find I don't have enough room, the DH and I will just have to go back! We live North of Charlotte, NC so it wouldn't be too bad of a day trip if I just HAD to go back! DH is so good-- he tends to indulge me with only a minimum of grumbling!

I was anxious before I posted, but now I'm close to frenzied! Can't wait...

I'm especially interested in the USTAGA rail system. Do you think I'll be able to "hang" my punches on this? That would be perfect-- especially for the ones I use the most like the two tag punches, circles, squares, etc.

Anyone else want to add to my ever-growing list???

My dh and I went on a shopping spree in July at IKEA. We took our van with the seats out, and we were able to get everything in and still have room. The flat packs are really easy to load.

Denise,

My friend Karen and I (we're from Rock Hill, SC) are also going to the regionals in Atlanta and planning a Sunday trip to IKEA in my SUV. We'll probably see you there! Are you going to the Saturday night SCS dinner?

for anyone searching IKEA for the rail system for punches= UTSAGA

I have the DVD holder for my SU! inkpads. LOVE THEM. The best way to know you are getting DVD and not CD holders is to take an inkpad. If the inkpad doesn't fit, it is a CD holder. (Also, the ink pad will only fit if you have the color strip facing out.) The cardboard magazine holders are fab too.

I also have LACK shelving. It is perfect! Just be aware that if you don't have the means to cut it to size, it isn't as versatile. Don't forget to get the end caps, either

My cabinets are the EFFEKTIV line, which fit all my 12X12 paper vertically in the paper holders. My garage doors are pretty kewl too When I get back from my crop this weekend, I will post pics of my stamp space.

I have a few little flip top plastic boxes with dividers (you can take all but two of them out if you want) that are wonderful for storage of all the little doodads. I have one on my desk that has all my "every time I sit down" stuff, so I don't forget anything when I have to leave for an event/workshop.

Gotta love IKEA!

Broni-- My friends and I are actually planning our shopping spree for Friday and then leaving for home right after the regional meeting is finished since we need to be back home Sunday AM. Thanks for asking. I hate to miss the dinner!

Ikea also has great 4x4 inch cork coasters that fit perfectly on the back of the tumbled tile coasters, in Canada they are 12 for 3.99 so in the states they would be even less. Check out the plant and garden area as well, they have cute galvenized buckets with handles, In the Kitchen area I bought a metal bar that holds 3 hanging metal baskets, very cute and not alot of money, Before you go anywhere though check out the Scratch and Dent area. I was able to get 3 billy bookcases for my stamping room for less then half of the original cost because they had a few blemishes, they were on the back so you can't see them at all. I love the scratch and dent. The only problem is that often you have to disassemble what you buy there. But they do have tools you can use.

Make sure you allow yourself min. 2-3 hours. Especially since it will be your first time and you will be overwhelmed.

Have fun. Tami

Actually, Tami, we plan to leave town and head straight to IKEA in time for lunch in their restaurant! Then we have the afternoon before we check into our hotel. We're allowing PLENTY of time (I hope)-- if not, it's at least enough time for our money to run out!

Thanks for scratch & dent tip. First time I've heard of that so I'll definitely check it out.

Ladies - these storage systems sound great. Will have to check them out--this cold weather is a good time for DH to take me on a road trip!
