So I didn't know the right forum to ask about ebay so I thought I'd try here because I am bidding on a really cool product...I won't say what yet but I am currently winning the acution for a very good price for this item. There's only a few hours left. I'm not too experienced on ebay but I've heard of the snipers! Do you think It'll get sniped cause this item usually goes for about 30 dollars more than my current bid?
Thanks
Erin

I've done a little shopping on the bay, and if there are still a couple of hours left on the auction, it's very possible that someone will swoop in and steal it away (not trying to bum you out, just keepin' it real). But, depending on the item, it might not happen either.
I usually figure out what I'm willing to pay in total, subtract the shipping charges off that, and enter that as my maximum bid. Then e-bay will automatically increase your bid for you as needed, up to that maximum. You might still lose the item in the end, but at least you won't get caught up in the quest to "win" and end up spending more than you meant. Also, if your maximum bid is higher than what the sniper enters, it's like their bid doesn't even count. There's not a delay between ebay accepting their bid and upping yours. This is useful in the very last minutes of an auction.
Or, if you know you can be back on the computer and you have a broadband connection, go back to the auction during the last couple of minutes so that you can jump in and increase your bid if you need to. I only did this once - I got quite caught up in the excitement of keeping that nasty sniper from getting "my" stuff, and the adrenaline rush when I "won" - thank goodness it was last minute and I didn't end up spending more than I meant to because I'm sure I would have if I had more time. That's when I decided I'd start just putting in my maximum bid and if someone else gets the item for $1.00 more, then so be it.
I do the same as the above post. I also make mine end in a really weird amount of change. Most people will add a penny or two to try and outbid a person. Say somebody put their max bid at $10.00 a lot of folks will put their max bid at $10.02 so they would win. I make mine end in .13. It's weird but it works a lot of the time. So I would have listed my max bid as $10.13. Good luck.
Or you could just sign up for Auction Sniper and let their automated bidding do it for you in the last 5 seconds! No one is faster than that. Oh, and make sure you put me down as a referral so I can get free snipes! I use it all the the time, and have won a lot of things because of them. Their fees are very small, and only charge you if you win.
I hope you win your item but Cheryl had some good advice. Figure out how high you are actually willing to go and then enter your maximum bid. You just have to be willing to let it go if the item gets above a certain price. I'm one of those people that if I REALLY want something I'll wait it out and bid at the last minute. I like to see what the bidding goes up to and then I decide if it's too high for me. Most of the time it works!

I haven't tried to use these services yet. What about bid assistant?
You definitely have to watch closely at the end of the auction if you really want something.

99% of the time the auction ends at fair price....meaning roughly average of what all the other auctions of the same item have ended at in the past 2 weeks. I always check completed auctions before bidding, just so I know what I have a good chance of getting something for. Once in a while something is missed and goes low, or two bidders go nuts and it goes high.
There are a lot of free or only-pay-if-you-win sniping sites: esnipe, auctionstealer, just google them.
You have no idea what you will get something for until it's OVER...and I find that most of my stuff gets bids in the last 10 seconds. I have had many auctions stay so low I was already in disappointment mode, only to have them go higher than any like it had ended at before in the last 5 seconds.
So...if you are dying to get it, bid your highest dollar through a sniping program. If there are plenty available, don't worry about losing this one.
Little Tip: Often similar items that end after 10PM PST or before 8AM EST go lower....so put your snipes on them and you may get a deal!!

Most people bid on it right at the end on ebay. I hate being outbid at the last minute. I like the ebay express, I like to find what I want and pay. I got outbid on something recently by 50 cents but I had already went to bed.
I didn't win it. It was a set of 132 prismacolor pencils that I was winning at $61. My max bid was $75. I got out bid several hours before it ended and so I just bought the 120 set of pencils for $59 plus $10 shipping, it was a "buy it now" which I like so much better So $69 total for 120 prismacolors, now I just need to get the other 12 pencils to complete my set.

I thought this was against Ebay's TOS... I haven't done much on ebay in a while so that might have changed.

?? never heard of an ebay coupon. What are they and how does one get them?
I've never heard of coupons either but I do use Big Crumbs to get cash back when I buy something on eBay. It's not a huge amount but I figure all the little bits eventually add up to a new stamp or some embellies, right?
The coupon was for 10% off your purchase... it always appeared everytime I logged in to ebay... on the way to the "My Ebay" page. It's only good for July. I think it's on the main page too, off in the corner. HTH!
I do the same thing. I decide from the begining what I am willing to pay for the item including the shipping consideration of course. If I win, Cool. If I don't, better luck next time.
