Late last night/ early this morning (insomnia!) I saw a commercial for a new paper trimmer that has a light in it to help you see exactly where you're cutting. It also had several extra blades with it that would cut wavy, scalloped, etc. edges rather than just a straight line. It looked neat, and it was only $19.95, so I thought it might be worth looking into.
Did anyone else see this? Or does anyone have it? I'd Google it, but I can't remember the name of it.
My only concern is that I don't see any info on getting replacement blades in the future and I doubt that this has self sharpening blades. The light is a great idea especially since it's battery powered. I may just wait and see on this.
One of my customers bought it and was disappointed. The lit area is about half an inch wide, and therefore doesn't show 'exactly' where the cut will be. She said a laser-line across the top of the paper would be more useful - like the tool used for hanging art.
But hey, I don't mind if someone else loves it - I'm just passing knowledge, not judgement.

Someone on my rubberstamping email group got this reply back regarding replacement blades:

I've been intrigued by this cutter as well - not for straight cutting or because it lights up though. I'm interested in the other blades that it offers - postage stamp and perforation blades.
I would also love to hear what others opinions of it are!
I have friends that have both the xacto cutter and the infomercial one. I have not heard anything negative about either. But, it has been awhile since I did a follow up too.

Hi Everyone~
I just got the craft lite cutter in the mail today. What a disappointment. I waited about two months for it only to find out that the batteries did not sit in the battery compartment correctly so the light kept going on and off. :( My husband fixed that by putting a small piece of foam on top of the batteries to hold them in place...okay I was willing to let that one go. But...you can not see through any shades of dark SU! cardstock, making the infamous light useless and the measurement grid that flips out to allow you to measure up to 15 inches has no lip on it, therefore it is very easy for your paper to slip around! Finally, get this, the straight blade cutter didn't cut straight! I thought I was going loopy until I asked hubby to try. All the other blades seem to cut okay and I did like the idea of having all the different cutting styles but- not cutting a straight line straight! Come on! I decided after all the waiting I was going to return it and get myself a SU! one!
Just my two cents!

I'm sad to report that I got Craftlite cutter as a gift. It really is cheesy, doesn't cut straight, it's hard to see where the decorative cartridges cut, and the scallop and zigzag cartridges are almost identical. Great idea, poor result.
Lesson is, never buy a paper trimmer for under $40 MSRP. I just don't think a decent trimmer can be made so cheaply. I have a Dahle trimmer and really like it. It doesn't do everything I want, but it cuts straight and the cutting cartridge doesn't wobble.

My Mom bought herself and I one....everything about it is good.....except that it does not have much of a ledge to put your paper up against, therefore making it move easily. I hope I am explaining this ok. The light, I thought, was great and the blades lock well and exchange easily and the other blades work well. Though I don't think the blades will last long. I just don't think they are made with really good quality. This is a great concept but it needs some fine tuning!!!
you know, i saw that infomercial and thought a coulple things. first, i have a SU! fiskars trimmer, and by looking at the line that the blade travels down i can see exactly where i'm cutting, it's no mystery. also, i love when in the commericial the person is cutting pictures and cuts all crazy right through the photo. i had to laugh because NOBODY under the age of 6 cuts like that!
I got the CraftLite for Christmas, and it's fine as a second trimmer... I already had a big tabletop Fiskars cutter, so I pretty much just use the CraftLite for the decorative blades. As long as I remember that it doesn't cut exactly straight when the paper is lined up with the top, it works fine. I probably wouldn't buy it for myself, though.
