For those of you who have the one that folds in half, what is your opinion of it. I'm looking to get a new one (birthday is coming up tee hee) and was looking at this one. Any thoughts and opinions?

Not that I am an expert on cutters or trimmers. But I did see this one in Hobby Lobby this weekend. But this is rotary trimmer. I own two rotary trimmers. Fiskars and Carl. But I just do not like them and am thinking of buying either the Tonic Trimmer or the SU table top trimmer which are both guillotine style trimmer. I have ready many posts on this forum and other forums where they have said guillotine trimmers are better
I have the Making Memories cutter and am very pleased with it. It is self-sharpening, allows for the use of magnets to "place" the paper, and it cuts straight lines. I have used Fiskars and the Provocraft ones: hated Fiskars because I couldn't get a straight line to save my soul and keep the Provocraft (bright green with pink) for when I am on the go. I confess I liked this cutter so much, I actually paid full price (gasp!) for it because I didn't want to wait for it to show up at AC Moore or Michaels.
I am on my second one. I really like it, but the numbers wore off the first one so the company sent a second, now the numbers are wearing off on this one1

That was the very first trimmer I bought to make Christmas cards two years ago. It broke within the first month - there was a red tab I recall that broke off and wouldn't keep the metal bar in place any longer. I had to call MM and get the parts mailed to me to repair it but in the meantime had to get another trimmer to finish up my cards. I purchased a guillotine kind from an office supply store and never liked the cut. I don't remember which brand but the rotary seemed to make an even cut and the guillotine I could tell which was the top side that I cut from by running my hand across it if that makes sense. I took that one back. I know have a Carl and love it but have to say that the MM was the easiest to get straight even borders especially since I didn't have any punches and had to manually do the "nesting" square thing. I remember they were having problems w/ the cutter as it was a new product for them and suspect they have made an improvement to that funny watchamacallit.
I just recently got this MM trimmer. I wasn't sure if I would like it or not until I tried it. I love it. It cuts straight and precise. I love that it folds in half.
The only downfall is that you cannot cut a already thin piece of paper any thinner because plastic blade protector thingy
I love my MM trimmer, but like PMR, my numbers are really starting to fade after a year of use. Time to contact MM and see if they stand behind their product!!

I also like it quite a bit. In general I'm not fond of guillotine trimmers, so that swayed my decision. Whether you will like it or not will depend on your preference in a trimmer. The MM trimmer is the best one I've ever purchased.

I have one and it cuts crooked. I've even tried adjusting it. I do like the style though and before it started cutting crooked I loved it. If I have every kind of cutter you can think of (not really) but I do have a Carl, about 5 Fiskars of different sizes, a dahl (which is really what the MM one is), a creative memories, and had SU guillotine as well as one I bought at an office supply store. I love the ease and control of the Guillotine. But for cutting paper for workshops I love my Carl.

Ephesians 2: 8-9
I was surprised to see this thread today, because I just bought a MM Precision 12x12 Trimmer yesterday at Michael's with my 40% off coupon. I've only used it one evening...but what a difference it is in quality than that flimsy plastic 12" Fiskars trimmer I had. That thing never cut straight! Never! And the blades were ridiculously dull after using the first time! I finally decided, "enough was enough" and did alot of research on Joann's and other websites reading reviews of various trimmers. I finally decided on the MM Precision 12x12 Trimmer for these reasons:
1. I like the fact that it is precision - and it surely is.
2. I like the folding factor - makes it more portable.
3. I like all the different sizes that are imprinted on the grid - i.e.: 5x7, 4x6 (that way hubby can also use it for his digital photo cropping)
4. I like that it comes with a super magnetic repositionable ruler - this hold your paper down and is way cool.
5. I like that it is a rotary cutter and is self-sharpening - No more blades!
6. I like that it is heavy enough to suggest quality - but light enough to move with ease.
I would add that there have been several posts about the numbers imprinted on the grid wearing off. I too, was concerned about that...but after reading more about it, it seems that this problem was an issue with their earlier models and they have since corrected the problem (with maybe sealant, I'm thinking...I don't know for sure). But after having read that and MM's willingness to replace the trimmer if it does happen, and weighing all the pluses I mentioned above, I opted for this trimmer. I'm sure that every trimmer has it's own issues, and there is no perfect trimmer...for me, having one that cuts precisely and is self-sharpening was what sold me. But, I suppose the proof will be in the pudding over time. Hope this helps you in your decision-making.

I've also had mine for over a year and still love it. No regrets. The ability to fold it makes it so much easier to pack. The numbers or grid lines on mine hasn't shown any sign of fading yet. I love the magnetic ruler/paper stop.
