Default More die cutting machine info...

Hi everyone, I've been searching around the forums for more info comparing the Big Shot to the Big Kick and I couldn't find any info! Also, the Sizzix site doesn't give a bit of info or specs on the Big Kick.

I am very frustrated as a consumer trying to compare, learn how to use my Big Shot etc. so I emailed Ellison and told them how frustrating I was. Hopefully, they will email me back with some useful info.

In the meantime, I looked at the Big Kick and I did find specs on their cutting pads and lo and behold, they are the exact same size as the Big Shots cutting pads.

I'm wondering if the Bigz dies and uber cool Texturz embossing plates will be compatible with the Big Shot! Have you seen the Bigz 4" Monogram dies??? They look pretty cool! Imagine die cutting 4" monograms! Of course, the Bigz Monogram dies are all sold out on sizzix.com. I found that odd.

All of this die cutting machine compatibility and speculation is just so much fun! If any of you have any more info on the Big Shot or Big Kick I'd love to hear it!

From what I've heard on my die cutting group the only difference between the Big Shot (BS) and the Big Kick are the colors.

Hmmm, haven't been on the boards in awhile so I don't know what kind of problems you're having with the BS. I totally love mine. It's much easier to use than my Wizard.

I'm wondering if the Big Kick is replacing the Big Shot. I'm curious to here what you find out from Ellison.

I'm not having any problems, I just get frustrated when the web site gives little to no information about what platforms, cutting pads, etc you need. I had to go to JulieHRR's blog to get the majority of my info!

I ordered the multipurpose platform from Joann's on sale with free shipping (along with 20 lunch tins) five days ago and they still haven't shipped!

I need that multipurpose platform to play! I also asked for CB embossing folders for Christmas. It's all I can do to not just go to Michael's and buy some of them NOW!!

Tee hee! I love all of this papercrafting stuff!

Ha ha, I just read that I described myself as frustrating as opposed to frustrated. I can be frustrating sometimes, or at least my kids and husband would attest to that.

I'm wondering the same thing -- does Ellison really need 2 small die-cutters? Especially with the Sizzix brand name being known so well.

I, too, noticed that all those big monogram dies are "out of stock" . . . maybe that's what they put 'cause they really haven't been released yet? I'd also be interested to see if anyone else is going to carry 'em for a better price. I know CreativeExpress is getting rid of everything Sizzix so no luck there. Ideas?

I just received the new (Fall 2006) Sizzix catalog in the mail and it shows the BIGkick -- but does NOT show the Big Shot. From the description, the footprint of the BK seems to be the same as the BS, and the compatibility with other Sizzix dies appears similar. I'm in the process of looking for a replacement for my soon-to-be-retired Zip'eMate -- am already having trouble finding replacement cutting-pads, etc. for it. :(

I requested my catalog on the Sizzix site, BTW -- and it came pretty quickly. HTH!

Happy trails....

A die cutting group? Sounds like fun! Is it a yahoo group?

Most LSS have demos of all the machines. If you have an Archivers, they do for sure. You can go in, (I'd go during a slow time), and ask someone to show you all there is to know about the Big Shot. They will answer all of your questions, and let you get the feel of it.

Yes, it's a yahoo group called DieCutsAll. Folks try to cover all the die cutters, QK, BS, BK, Wizard, Sizzix, etc. answering question and just generally trying to help each other out.

I just was on yahoo, and found a group called diecutcreations, that sounds similar to what you are talking about.

The big kick and big shot are basically the same machine. Ellison and Provo Craft co created the Sizzix brand in 2001 so both systems are made to be compatable.

Vera, it's such a crap shoot, but I would really be surprised if the Big Shot became extinct because:

www.ellisondesign.com just opened up an online store for purchasing all things Big Shot specifically. They have NOT been on sale/presented with major price reductions, like all Sizzix products have been.

I haven't gone to check out the newly announced specs on the Big Kick, but from what I've read in this thread alone, the darn thing sounds nearly identical to the Big Shot, just a different color! :p

Even if they ditch the Big Shot, I don't care--it's a great machine, and performs well with ALL those dies; I'm stickin' with it to the bitter end! ;)

LOL!

There are two groups that look good. One is as mentioned, diecutall, and the other is diecutcreations. I joined both.

Wow, and I thought I had heard it all. Die cut chat groups!

I'm sticking with my Big Shot too. It's paid for! If I'm correct that the cutting pads are the exact same size as the Big Shot, then I'll be really happy. There's even a mulitpurpose platform for the Big Kick that is packaged almost identically to the Big Shot MP platform. I'll give Ellison/Sizzix the benefit of the doubt and cross my fingers that both machines are compatible.

I'm really happy with the big dies coming out. Sounds like the Big Shot will keep workin' for me!

I have no doubt they'll be fully compatible, Vera; it wouldn't make sense for them not to, UKWIM?

And, BTW, fellow die-cut addicts, have you seen THESE?????????

To OP,

I have the impression that Ellison and Sizzix release twin product counterparts (some unknown reason as to why, though?). I know I saw the Sidekick at M's and bought one long before I realized there was an Ellison counterpart called Tag-A-Long. I've only seen Tag-A-Long online -- not in craft stores around here, but would love to have known about it first, since it's pink (love pink, teehee).

As for the Sizzix Big Kick, I've only seen it online, but it looks identical in function to the Big Shot. Just has a little different housing and colors. Even the name has a similar ring to it.

I'm keeping Big Shot. It makes me happy because it's so versatile!
