OK...My DH is intrigued enough for me to purchase one.:p The big question is should I wait and get the bigger model or is the one that is out good enough. I can be patient if the benefit outweighs the immediate impulse. I do each of my 4 kids a 12 X 12 scrap book. (yes...I am crazy!)

I know what you feel like Helen, but I'm waiting to see what the price of the new one will be. If its too crazy than maybe I'll settle for the first one. The price of the second one will come down but when. I wonder if WalMart will get the new one in stock, if they do the price will be better. I'm waiting for awhile, I think!!!!
Personally, after seeing how the whole price-fixing thing of the 1st machine turned out, I'd wait awhile and let the price settle on the new machine before buying it. I do have the original Cricut and love it -- I have no plans to get the bigger one 'cause I cannot imagine needing to cut anything bigger than I already do.
I have the first machine and I LOVE it! I also scrapbook a 12x12 book for each of my 5 children plus one for our family. Since I've had my Cricut for 2 months I have completed over 50 pages using it. Really fast and perfect! You can make each letter up to 5 1/2 inches big and even some borders on certain cartridges. The new Cricut is more geared towards schools & teachers for bulletin boards and signs even though you could still use it for scrapbooking. From what I understand the new one will not be portable and will be substancially higher in price according to Provo Craft. I might end up getting it next year because I am working on a bulletin board and it would be nice but I will stick to my little Cricut for all my scrapbooking needs!
The new Cricut has some really cool features, but I have a feeling it's going to be very pricey. The original unit is all the the typical crafter would ever need. Just my 2 cents.
Thanks for the info girlies! When I first read that Cricut was coming up with a bigger model I was soo mad! Now after reading your comments, it makes a lot of sense! I will stick with my original! Thanks for calming me down!
I hate to add fuel to the fire, but I am totally waiting for the new Cricut. They were showing it at CHA AND they cut chipboard with it, lightweight metal - I was absolutely astounded that they did it and am now pounding their door down trying to get release information. My conversation with a Provocraft customer service person today left me wanting in a big way - all she would answer is that she is not able to release any information at this time. I asked for timeline, price point, yada, yada - each time she answered that she "couldn't release that information at this time" I wanted to say, but you MUST. I can't wait to know! LOL!
So my thought is I'm waiting - VERY impatiently though I must add
Wow the ability to cut through thicker materials is way cool! My first thought about the larger format of Cricut is that you could make full-sized gift boxes and bags as opposed to the miniature versions currently available on the original machine. That is way cool!
I don't know that walmart will be carrying the new Cricut machines, as it sounded like they violated their contract bigtime with the first version by selling it at a lower price; something like that ProvoCraft might not be too keen to have happen again.
The lady that I buy my Cricut cartridges from said that a friend of hers got to play with the new machine and that you can rotate items and that they were cutting out a 24" Mickey Mouse.. how cool is that. I just ordered Going Places and Fantastic Finds today along with 9 Cuttlebug Embossing folders and an Awareness Ribbon die. Can't wait to get my goodies. I hope
that the new machine isn't a bank breaker. I would like to see it in action before making my purchase. Pam

The new machine is supposed to come out in May. That gives us a few months to save up for it. I didn't know that it was supposed to be able to cut chipboard. I read the reviews from those who saw it and from what I understood the blade is the same and so are the dials on it. We will find out soon enough. I'm just so in love with my Cricut now that I don't know if I will be able to make room for the new one.
I'd wait. Maybe the bigger one will cut out bags and things I would want for goodies. there are lots of things I like about the cricut and I am excited to see the newer bigger version.
At CHA they were demonstrating the new Cricuit Expressions and I was asking them a myriad of questions. One of which was will it cut chipboard. He walked me over to one of the displays and pointed out a scrapbook page that had a lightweight chipboard in it, he also showed me the page that had the metal cut embellishment as well. I wish I had taken my camera with me, but alas it was sitting back at the booth where I had been working. I should have taken the man's name down - LOL - he wouldn't know what hit him if when the machine comes out and it doesn't do this how he will be bombarded with "hey you said... you even showed this chick... she was so excited!!!" LOL!
If you can believe it, I am more uncertain than ever as to what to do!!!
I guess I will wait unless I see an awesome deal...like a clearance price at Walmart! I have my mom watching them since she has 3 super sized stores near where they sunbird in Arizona. I will for sure be watching the current cartridges (and purchasing!) now that I know they will work on the newer model, just in case! Thanks to everyone for your input.
I had the first one and I hated it. I actually set it back. I hear the newer version is geared more towards teachers. I opted to go with the QK Silhouette. I love it.
I love my Cricut but it frustrates me that the Tags, Bags and Boxes come out so small. That is the one big selling point to me for the larger one, it will cut out the Bags and Boxes at least twice as big as they will cut on our original machine. But then I am not willing to spend my money all over again, just to cut bigger bags!
