No Ikea in my state, what do I do with my punches now?
Okay, so I finally broke down and figured out how many Bygel rails and baskets I would order from Ikea, went online to do it....They are not available that way.
So I called to order them....they are not available that way either!
I asked if there was a store in WI, they said no.
I tried ordering the Kroken rails too, no luck there either!
So now how do I store my punches? I really like the "rail on the wall" idea. What other rails has anyone bought that works just as well? What is the distance between the rails adn the wall?
Thanks for asking this question. I do not have an Ikea in Nebraska either. Could drive to Minneapolis but need to do it before the snow flies and dont see that happening!
My husband made mine out of wooden dowels with endcaps and screwed them to the wall to hold my punches. My area is in the basement and it doesn't need to be pretty though. . .
I have a sweet & talented friend in FL (SCS'er) who hangs her punches on the basic white curtain rods ... the smaller dimension for her small punches, and the 'valance' dimension for her large (whale-tail) punches. Her DH attached a few rows of rods to a plank of white painted wood, and that is attached to the end of a "cabinet" near her stamping table. Very efficient! ;)
Personally, I do have a couple of the IKEA rods here near my main stampin' table. However, that's not enough for all of my punches. I keep the less-used punches in a 3-drawer Sterilite container (8.5" X11". That size fits in my shelves.)
I keep mine in a shoe organizer - the kind you hang on the back of your closet door! It works perfectly. I have more than one punch in some of the pouches. The closet's right next to my desk so it works for me.
I love the Bygel Rails..hubby has made me two of the racks with 8 rails each for my stamp room. He mounts the 8 rails to a nice sturdy board so there are not so many holes in the wall. He is so sweet...I still dont have enough room for all the punches...lol
blessings.
Depending upon where youa re storing and how much room, I have a section of gutter hanging on the wall above my stamping area that holds all of my punches quite nicely.
I have two Ikea rails (31")...these are the flat black ones...if anyone needs them, I will sell for $10 ($5 each) plus shipping.
I bought 6 of these before I finished my scrap room...then decided not to clutter up my wall. So far 4 have found other homes and this thread reminded me that I have the 2 left. LOL Ikea no longer returns ANYTHING without a receipt...and they don't even have receipt lookup!! :(

The small hardware store next door to me has small towel racks. They come in 2 lengths 17 and 13 inches. They are about 2.00 each. I mounted them to the side of my worktable. They hold my big punches, I have the rest in either Ivy cars or wood trays for shelving my husband built.

I use this system from the Container Store for my punches and rolls of ribbon. I didn't buy the system as shown, you can purchase the baskets separately and get the sizes you need. It's more pricey, but I wanted something I could hook onto a door without using any nails or screws.....I got their door bracket kit for the system. I really like it!
I bought the Walmart rods...less than $2 each...and found that they had more space between the rod and the wall than I wanted. So I took them back and went to Joann's and bought Kirsch rods for just under $3 each...but they are closer to the wall, like the Ikea ones. I can put both the larger and the mid-size punches on them very nicely. Actually the small ones fit too but I have so few of them that I have them in a small drawer.
I thought that I would mention that I don't live far from an IKEA and if there is something someone wants, I'd be willing to pick it up for you and then re-package it to ship to you. I can't say how economical it will be, not know weights and shipping costs, but it would be something I'd be willing to do.
I dont know where you are in Wisconsin but there is an Ikea at Woodfield Mall near Algonquin IL...it might be a nice day trip for you.....Just a thought. I used to live in Rockford and it took me less than 45 minutes to get there. Just off of Highway 90.
