My Cricut went bad a few weeks ago. I could only get these boxes on the screen and it wouldn't do anything. I actually co-own the Cricut and my friend called Provo and they said that it is getting to be a common problem. They said that we could have one shipped to us, but we would have to give a credit card number just in case we didn't send the broken one back.
Thankfully, Michael's was very accomodating and got us a replacement and took the broken one back without any questions. I think that they had heard about the problem.
Just wanted to let my fellow Cricut owners know to not get too worried if they see the boxes on their screens.

Ohhhhh Nooooooooo!!!
I hope I don't see any "boxes"---I love my Cricut...but, my son does work for Michael's so....he'll be taking care of his Mom's Cricut should it go wacky ;)
When this happened to mine, my big concern was that we would have to send it off and be Cricut-less for some time while they fixed it. Thankfully, they do not do that. That is the good news!
This happened to my Cricut within A WEEK of when I bought it.
I was very pleased with how Provo Craft handled it. I called to tell them about the problem, and they shipped me my new one within 2 days. And I just turned around and shipped mine right back to them.
Interesting that this has been a big problem for them . . .
I had another issue with mine and had to send it back. I was a little worried because mine was 4 months old but this was an issue with the size dial that I had been having off and on since the second time I used it.
If yours is acting up and not very old you may take it back to the original vendor (check your receipt) if it's past that date then the 1 year warranty kicks in and you can deal directly with Provocraft.
Yes I got a replacement - in just 5 days which is amazing since I'm in BC Canada and this ships out of UTAH!
The new machine's warranty is now effective for 1 year from the date of the replacement.
Yes I did have to give my credit card info but I completely understand why. Some people were not sending their old ones back to Provocraft and in order for them to improve on the design they need to investigate the defects of the returned machines.
When I got my new one I tested it out and then packaged up my defective one and sent it off using the FedEx shipping forms that Provocraft had prearranged. FedEx even picked up from my doorstep.
I've tracked it and confirmed that it had been returned and accepted by Provocraft.
I just have to say with ALL of the Cricut BUGS that I've heard about and experienced myself the customer service from Provocraft has been awesome.
I've learned that next time I'll wait until Version 2 comes out before buying anything like this again!
I have the second version but the problem I have and haven't called about is that it just quits cutting in the middle of a project sometimes... Anybody else have this problem?
Now I am worried. I won mine at AC Moore and don't have a reciept. I don't know what I will do if something happens to it.

I would think AC would have a record of their winners. But I also think ProvoCraft would take care of you regardless. Hopefully, you have a healthy Cricut! ;)

I got to use my Cricut over the weekend after having it for over a month. I believe mine is the 2nd version, because it is different than the demo model I saw at the Scrapbook store where I bought it. Mine did not have the George Cartridge in it when I opened the box, so the store called Provo. Provo told them for me to call directly and they sent out a cartridge the next day. Provo seems to be great with the customer service, which is a blessing after what it cost. Hopefully my model won't have a problem, but if it does I won't panic. Thanks for the heads up. Love this site, so much information!!!! By the way, LOVE the little machine!!!
