Question Primsacolor Pencils - buy a set of 48 or pick out individual colors?

I am looking at buying some Prismacolor pencils and wondered if I should buy a set or just buy individual ones to start with. The price difference isn't that much on dickblick.com. If you have any advice I would love to hear it. Thanks!!!

Check out ebay. I recently bought the 130 (i think) pack and got it for $60.00
I thought that was really good since I had seen them at hobby lobby for about $120.00. Ebay has great prices on them IMO.

I ordered mine individually from dickblick.com and am very pleased that I did so. I ordered the colors that would match the 48 stampin up and then some of the neutral colors as well. That is what I would suggest if you want to coordinate your colors.

If you want to order individually, check out this ebay store - seems to have good prices and cheapo shipping.

I got a hot tip in another thread about some clearance Prismacolor pencils at Hobby Lobby. I went earlier this week to check it out, and I found a portfolio set that included a nice black case, steel pencil sharpener, 12 pencils, and a heavyweight sketch pad, marked down from $30 to $10. Don't know if that is what they meant in that other thread, but I figured it would be a nice (and discounted!) intro to Prismacolors.

**I still swear by my Crayola Portfolio pencils, though! **

Definitely check out Ebay...and I would seriously consider buying the 120 ct., I really don't think you would ever regret it. I would be very overwhelmed if I would have had to "choose" colors individually. If you are patient you will get a good price on Ebay...I only paid $53 and that included shipping! Just my 2 cents, good luck with your decision!

It really depends on what you want to do........do you like drawing and coloring.......do you occasionally color in a stamped image.........do you love to color in stamped images....

I do a lot of artwork with colored pencils and started with a small set years ago and still have some of that pencils as I barely used them.
I soon started buying them individually......only the colors I love and use a lot. With those good quality pencils you would only need a few basic colors and 'make' the shades yourself by blending and layering as this gives a more natural effect.

Hope this helps

Vronica;)
