Default Prismacolor pencils at Walmart

I saw a box of Prismacolor pencils at Walmart (in Canada) and was wondering if I should get them. I like coloring in my stamped images and currently use SU classic ink and a blender pen or watercolor pen. Do the pencils make much of a difference or should is save my $25.00.

Do you just color in the image and use a blender pen?

Should a person get the pencils or the Prismacolor markers? Is there a big difference between the two?

I have never colored with anything but SU inks so I have no idea. Is it better to use the SU pencils?

Opinions please! Thanks.

Here's a tutorial about using colored pencils like Prismacolor. I love this technique!
Gamsol Magic Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers

Are the SU pencils watercolor pencils? Those are a different material than the wax-based prismacolors and use water as a medium to blend.

Charlene........which dept. did you find them in? I don't think I've seen them in the three different Walmarts that I go to here.

I saw them in the stationary section. Our Walmart has about 3-4 isles with crayola markers, pens/pencils, envelopes, office paper, etc. and they were hanging up with all that stuff. I can't remember exactly which isle but most Walmarts seem to be set up the same so check the stationary section. Let me know if you find them.

Which pencils are better - Prismacolor or SU pure color pencils? Or is there a difference? You would get more pencils in the box with Prismacolor - I think there were 24 approx. I didn't look all that closely at the box so I don't know the exact number or colors.

If you want to use the Gamsol with the Prismacolor pencils, I think you want to buy the "Premiere" ones ... the ones I have seen at Walmart (and I am also in Canada) are not the Premiere ones. I'm not sure exactly what the difference is, but this is what I've read in various places.

I think Gamsol is a brand of oderless mineral spirits. I was reading in the Resources section - see post #2 for the link - and it explains it. You have to use the blending stumps with the gamsol from what I gather.

You can use oderless mineral spirits (that you get at Michaels) instead of waiting for the gamasol. I bought mine there. The bottle had Mona Lisa on it and says "Oderless Mineral Spirits". Works perfectly.

Can I say what a difference these pencils have made in my coloring? I used to hate line image stamps (only bought solid image stamps) but now I can use anything. Still not up there with some of the best people on SCS...but I'm certainly not ashamed of my coloring skills anymore!

I actually don't know. From what I have now read, I don't think they are watercolor pencils but I don't know what you would call them either.
