I have an ever-increasing stash of large punches (like the Marvy Uchida clever levers everyone has been drooling over). I've been lending them out so I've never had them all in one place at the same time. But now that everything is back in my workspace I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by the pile of them. I need a better storage solution than a pile in one of my storage cubbies.
I've heard alot about people using the hanging shoe pouches that hang on the back of doors. Personally I only have two punches, but if I had a bunch, that would be the way I would store them!
I used to use the back-of the door shoe holder it worked really well but I'm now storing ribbon in it instead since I had more ribbon/use ribbon more often. If you do get one...you want one with clear pockets.
Now I use the clear plastic storage drawers.
HTH,
Anita

I remember that there were great ideas in the stamping spaces part of the gallery...check there!
I like the idea of the metal strip mounted to the wall ... just slide the punch slot over the strip ....visible, accessible.
but for now,
I use a four-drawer-tall dresser that has all my "cut-y, paste-y, embelish-y" (brads and eyelets, heat embossing, wireworks)stuff in it.
I cut on a big cutting mat, right on the top. It is a cutting station!
My punches (only two dozen big ones) are all laid out neatly in a drawer and I have ziplocks for the shapes I punch out of scraps right there.
I keep my heat powders and heat tool there as well as hobby blades and the hammer, wire working stuff and clippers.
It's nice to know that if it is closed, my room is probably 'safe' for my students, their kids and my family.
Also it is the only clean part of the room, as I was very careful to lay it all out with 'room to grow' space... that is the most important!
I just got another punch the other day!
I 'lock' it (childproof) by running a stick through all the dresser handles and attaching it to screweye in the edge of the counter on top.
I have a long dowel with another screw eye at the end for the stick and it has a keyring and the fiddly hook so that I just hook it right to the dresser itself.
works great!
I could even put a small padlock on it to deter my genius son, when his hands get strong enough to work the hook.
but by then , he may learn enough to know better!

I store my regular large punches in the hanging-over-the-door shoe holder (24 pouches), which I must admit is FULL. The small lever punches I doubled up in a few of the pouches to save on room. I had to anchor it to the door with strategically placed thumb tacks because it bumped and bounced when I opened and closed the door. My Fiskars border punches I have in a drawer in my six-drawer plastic cabinet -- which is also where my hand punches are.
I just got a over the door shoe organizer. If you go that way, make sure the pockets are clear so you can see what is in each pocket. I had to search a bit to find a clear one. I got one with 24 pockets thinking it would be more than enough. I used every pocket!! I never knew I had so many. My DH is going to die when he sees it.

Wow that's a long URL. Anyhow, they are a pain in the butt to put together but I have the one with three draws for my punches, and the one with all little draws for markers (each color family in it's own drawer I can easily pull out), embossing powders, pencils, paint brushes, tools, etc. And you can paint them.

I store my punches on pegboard. I picked up the pegboard idea from JulieHRR, but I don't think she stores her punches the same way.
Here's a picture from my gallery. I actually have more punches now (I think they multiplied when I wasn't looking), and had to move my handhelds over a little. Additionally, some of my bigger punches didn't hang well on hooks (like Word Window), but it slips over the top of the pegboard... I'll take another picture tonight and post it.
The pegboard was inexpensive, and I like that you can rearrange the hangers as your needs change.
Post what you end up with ~ I know we're always looking for new storage and organizational ideas!
I got a set of 2 over the door pocket organizers at QVC (item F01076):

One has 44 small pockets that are perfect for small and medium size punches. The other has 18 bigger pockets that hold larger punches, including my Fiskars border punches, plus my embossing gun and other bulky items. They are quite sturdy and take the weight when full.

I store mine in a 3 draw plastic bin that is on wheels. I keep mine stationary but it's nice to know you can move it around if you wanted to. I have a lot of punches and this works for me.

Thanks Kathy, for posting the link to this. I have been looking for these type of items but haven't had much luck in finding them! I take it that you like yours, so with a recommendation like that, I'm placing my order today!
Good choice Lynn! I find that having my punches out where I see them, reminds me to use them more than if I had to dig thru a drawer. For others who are interested, if you don't have a regular craft space, you can hang these in a closet and then bring them out when you want.

I got a great storage shelf form www.mycraftsolutions.com that works great for punches. The shelves are adjustable and I hang it on the wall so it doesn't take up table space. It can hold my Giga punches, thats all I ask! Hope this helps!
I store mine in the spice racks that hang on the wall (the white vinyl coated kind) that you can buy at any kitchen store (IKEA, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond). These reacks are also great for storing your wheels, plastic boxes of brads, buttons, etc or other items. I am an organization "freak" and am constantanly reorganizing to make everything easier to find, closer at hand, etc. I also make great use of the peg board idea suggest above. I have a large one mounted on mounted on each side of my sliding closet door of my craft room. The inside ped board is for all my tools (hammer, screw drivers, wrenches, etc. and the outside one is for all my craft necessities (decorative scissors, kai scissors, bottles of beads, extra cutting blades for my paper cutter, crimper, etc.)
I store mine in clear plastic boxes with lids. I have a LARGE cabinet with all my stamp supplies. All of my tools are in these boxes, which stack nicely in my cabinet. I have labeled each box and it looks really nice. Since I don't have a Stamp Room, this really works nicely for me. Right now I have two boxes of punches...one for SU punches, and one for non-SU punches...but my punch collection is still growing, so I when it goes to three boxes, I will organize another way..perhaps small punches/rounded punches/squarish punches. I also have all my cardstock (and I have every SU color in the Paper Plastic Paper Holders SU sells all on one shelf in my cabinet, so I can see all the colors at once.:-) LM
