Question for all you knowledgeable women -- is it silly to want Marvy punches INSTEAD of the Nestabilities? I am so torn what to buy. I have a bunch of the giga/mega/jumbo punches already, am really only missing the square ones. I was thinking of buying the square scalloped ones. But then I'm wondering if I should be investing in the Nestabilities instead? I DONT want to find that I love the Nestabilities and want to buy them all ... I dont think I NEED them all, since I'm doing just fine with the punches I have now. Anyone NOT jumped on the Nestabilities band wagon? Opinions please! Thanks.
I haven't purchased the Nestabilities either. I'm quite happy with my punches. I do like that the Nestabilities would be easier to store and I also like that they come in more sizes, but for what I need it to do, the punches are just fine for me now!
I don't think I am going to help here. I had a bunch of the giga etc. punches. Purchased one set of the nestibilities for a few different sizes for a project. Well I just sold all of my puches at a LSS garage sale and now have all the circles w/scallops and all the squares w/scallops. Rectangles and Ovals here I come! LOVE THEM!! And the space I have!
I haven't, mostly for lack of funds. :( But, then, I don't have any of the giga punches either, and don't know for the life of me which to save up for. I know the punches would be cheaper, but the nesties have more matching sizes.... and, um, I am no help, am I??? I am also not knowing what to do.
I have read glowing remarks about the nesties and the cuttlebug, but then someone says they are having trouble using them together, and I sure don't want to buy the nesties and find I don't like them. (As I might have with the crop-a-dile big bite)
Am going to keep an eye on this thread... thanks for starting it!

I have several of the Marvy punches - I had them first. I also have a complete set of Nestabilities (I got them before I joined Spellbinders - that's how much I love them!). You sound like you know what sets the Nestabilities apart from the punches, so I won't go over all that again. ;) If I had to do it all over again, though, I probably wouldn't have any punches!
It sounds like you could go with the square Nestabilites and make your decision from there. It might help you make the decision that is right for you! Good luck!

I'm with Jenn . . . I had a bunch of the Nesties before joining the Spellbinders Design Team, as well as the giga/mega punches. I can honestly say that those punches have sat pretty much dormant since getting my Nestie collection. I love that you can emboss the edges and pick from so many different sizes. What more can I say? They were totally worth the investment!
I just played with my nesties for the first time last night (I LOVE them already!)... Love the cutting part, but not doing so well with the embossing part. I am not getting the crisp/obvious edge that I see on others cards in the gallery. I use the CB, with a tan mat as I suspect I should. DO you cut then emboss? Or the other way around? Any suggestions would be appreciated...
Oh and by the way as for punches vs nesties- I only have one set of nesties, but they are much more affordable given the number of "punch" sizes you get for your money, and the storage capabilities are wonderful! (sorry realized I kinda hijacked the thread!

I've only ordered the scallop circle large nestabilities. Oh wait, I should say I've only RECEIVED the cirle as I've ordered the rectangle set but it hasn't arrived. I also have the Marvy punches (various sizes). I purchased the $24.99 of nestabilities first to see how I'd like them and I love them. They just look so "clean" to me and I love the embossing aspect as well.
I ordered the rectangles because I love the look of them on cards of seen here (even just embossing the front of the card). So I'm holding on to my punches because my plan is NOT to go overboard on the nestabilities. But we'll see.
Diane, I cut, then emboss. As for the embossing in the Cuttlebug, you can do it successfully, but I really feel you get a crisper emboss with the Wizard. I did a blog post a while back on what I find is most successful with the Nestabilities in the 'bug; you can find the link here: http://createdfrompaper.blogspot.com...cuttlebug.html
HTH!

Diane, I'm bumping your question since I want to know the answer as well
Cathy,
I had asked a similar question on another thread, and someone pointed me to Nichole Heady's blog at Papertrey Ink. She has an AWESOME tutorial wth many suggestions. Check it out. (took me awhle to find it, but it is there- under the FAQ if I remember).
Diane
I had all the punches, loved them, dig through them find which ones you want (they took up 4 drawers) and then I bought one set of 4 Nesties! HAAAA, they take up 2 CD cases, I have way more sizes, they emboss as well as cut. They are not heavy to use like a punch is and I cleared up 4 drwers for something else!
They will work in just about every die cutting machine on the market too!

I like them both and it just depends on what I am making with them. I like the Nesties for all the sizes in a set and the actually nesting ability which is lacking in the punches BUT, if all I was a nice scalloped shape with no embossing and I need to make 60 of them I would much rather use the punch as it's so much quicker and I can avoid all the layering required for the Nestabilities.
That said I am all over the electronic Wizard when it's available to order!!
Okay, I just did it! I ordered the square and rectangle scalloped large Nestabilities from Ellen Hutson's store. She's having a 10% off sale today. Then if I like them, I can always order more! I'm excited! Thanks for all your help gals!
My question is...
Which die cut machiene are you SUPPOSED to use nesties with? I see that some of you use your Cuttlebug with them, but which one are they designed for use with?
I would like to start getting them, but I dont own even 1 die cutter.
Thanks!

I believe that they are designed to be used with the "wizard" die cut machine, but perhaps someone else could confirm this...

Diane, the Nestabilities were designed by Spellbinders, the people that also do the Wizard, diecutting and embossing system. Yes, the dies are universal and can be used in a number of machines on the market, but if you want the best results, you will get them with the Wizard. If you don't have any machine at all and are interested in Nestabilities the smartest thing you could do is get the Wizard, the machine for which they were designed.
The Nesties were designed to work with the Wizard, but in a few months they are coming out with a new machine called the XCalibur. It does the same thing as the Wizard, but it is automatic! No ratcheting, nice and quiet! No problem for folks like me with tendonitis, carpal tunnel, or making cards cards at midnight just 20 feet from the kids' rooms!
I only have 4 or 5 of the Marvy punches -- some ovals, scalloped ovals, and square scalloped -- and find that they are just fine. I don't have one of those special die-cut machines, it's too expensive and I have nowhere to keep it. I can't see spending a lot of money on a big machine just to get Nestabilites which are more money on top of that. I use my 40 percent coupons at Mikes and I have money left over for stamps

I started to try it out with the bigshot and it made a horrible cracking sound - can you tell me which plates you used? That's probably what I'm doing wrong!
