I would recommend that you make sure the glass surface you use is tempered, for safety purposes. I believe the EK Success glass mat is indeed tempered (I have one), but, please don't take my word--double check to be sure.

I believe that glass mat being sold by Sunday International is Walnut Hollow and that brand is tempered.

Also, Tonic makes a tempered glass mat.

Tempered glass is much stronger than regular glass, and, when it breaks, it breaks into pebble-like pieces instead of sharp shards.

I have used my hot knife with the EK glass mat and haven't had any problems yet.
