Default Quickutz silhouette

Do you like and if so what ate the advantages to having it? Do you have another cutting machine also and how does the silhouette compare to it? Does quickutz offer enough designs to justify buying the cutter? Can you download or scan in things that are not quickutz designs?

I am thinking of buying one of these but I want to make sure I shouls be loking at another cutter instead.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Stephanie- I've been debating between the Quickutz Silhouette and the Cricut for about a month now. I've decided to go with the Quickutz Silhouette. Reason being, you can use any true type font from your computer with the Silhouette. With the Cricut you have to buy each alphabet individually and they're not cheap!! There are lots of sights that you can also download more true type fonts for free! Hope that helps!

Yes that was a big help I was wondering how fonts were used on the machine. A lot of my friends have the cricut so I thought it would be better to have something different because I can always used theirs but right now you can get the cricut cheap but like you said you have to purchase those cartidges and I already have the revolution and the squeeze. so I have a lot of Quickutz stuff already.

Yup, you can scan your own images and the Silhouette will be able to cut them. The Silhouette is very flexible and you don't have to pay for anything else (except replacement blades and if you want to download their images) after your initial purchase of the machine. It's basically like a printer except it cuts. Definitely more cost efficient than a cricut...

I, too want to get the Silhouette for the same reason it uses Clip Art software you already own. You can also go to the Quickuts site and buy their clip art to download. I also understand that they will soon be offering CD's with clip art. I really want this machine. Wild Ivy Memories aka Keeping Memories Alive has it.
It is also smaller in size than the Cricut Expressions and does that same thing but with more options!! got to love that! Unfortunately it will be a while before I can get it. By then they will probably have even more great features!!

I've heard/read that MacUsers have difficulty using the Silhouette because there are bugs/problems with the Silhouette software.

I got that email too! It looks pretty neat and the price is right. I'm also excepted about the vinyl. I think that will be neat.

I love my Silhouette, no cartridges! I also have a friend who has a cricut so if I really want something, we swap. I like being able to size things to any size, so when I use for scrapbooking I can make it fit a space. Good luck, look into a local dealer, I belong to a quickutz club and got 25% off when I joined and 25% off all other quickutz items including download cards!

I bought a silhoutte last spring. I love the fact that I can print anything I want. There are tons of newgroups out there that have all kinds of people sharing awesome files for free download.
I bought the Silhoutte because it cuts full sized cardstock (8 1/2 x 11.) where the original cricut took 6 x 12 paper-- and needed additional cartridges.
The Silhoutte is a little harder to use... I struggled with the set up initially-- but the newsgroups had all kinds of FAQs and PDF files to help with that.
I love the fact that I can cut any TT Font on my pc. I even downloaded several SIZZIX Look-alike fonts to be able to cut in any size!! Awesome.....

Then came the EBug.... Yikes... 12 x 24 cutting options-- and a few new cute cartridges... I had played with the original cricut and always like how easy it was to turn it on... insert cartridge, load paper... CUT. a little bit easier than the silhoutte.
several months ago provocraft had a great deal on the Ebug for Demos...and a good deal on a few of those cutesy cartridges.... SOLD. Now I have the best of both worlds.
I dont have that many cartridges... as I am getting them on special and ebay... but I love the fact that I can also cut 12 x 24 if need be!

Hope this helps!!!

Default Illustrator and Silhouette

I just got a Silhouette and I am trying to get more information.
Mac users have a special plugin to use the Silhouette machine. Do you know if this is also compatible with a PC.
I would love to develop my own shapes in Illustrator.
Thanks.

Default Silhouette handsdown

I have the Wishblade which is the same machine as the Silhouette and think its way better than the Cricut which I have used at work. You never have to buy a cartridge again. Everything can be done from your home computer.
You can cut any font you have, weld letters together, trace dingbat images and so many things.

The Sihouette can cut .gsd files. Here are a couple of links where you can download files for free. You do have to become a member to the forums but it is so worth it.

I post samples of things I have done with my Wishblade from time to time on my blog if you are interested.
