I just used my last sheet of my Stampin'Up Grid paper pad. I have used this forever to stamp on--do you feel it is worthwhile to repurchase? Or does anyone have an alternative of some type of paper pad to stamp on?

It depends. If you use the ruler on it, then it's worth it. Plus, it's pretty cheap - about 12 cents a sheet once you figure in tax and shipping. However, if you don't use the ruler, then scratch paper is fine. I tend to use whatever paper I have handy and if it's the grid paper, then that's what I use. I don't rely on it for measurements, so it's just another piece of scratch paper to me.

i took a sheet of it to Staples and had it laminated! now it last forever! but, you do have to be careful with ink, as it can stay on top and cause smudges.
just wipe it down and you'll be fine!

At the start of each new year, Staples & Office Depot sell off thier large desk top calenders from the last year, the ones that execs use on thier desks, for as low as $.25. I usually get a half a dozen. I use them for stamping blotters all year long. It doesn't have the nice grid but I have used the lines for alignments. Mostly it's just a blotter/ stamp cushion/ test paper & once it's too inked up, I just tear off that month to start a new one. Work great as a blotter for kids projects too.

You can get ledger size paper (11x17) at most office supply stores -- 500 sheets for about $15.

I really love my SU grid paper! You can re- use it and I've yet to replace my grid pad that I've had for about ? 18 months. Money well spent!

I just get pad of newspaper at M's (with a 40% coupon) and use that. I don't need the ruled paper so this works for me.

I use phone books for my stamping/gluing scratch paper. Free and delivered to my door every year.

I use the large desk calendars (purchase a few at the end of the year when they are cheap). I don't find the grid paper of any use. It's too small to cover the desk top. Calendar gives a larger work surface and is a bit of a cushion also. Just put your stamping pad on top of it. When the sheet gets really dirty, just tear it off and throw it away. New clean one is right beneath. Calendar pad can last a long time.

I use the ruler faithfully. But I do wish it was bigger. If I did not use the ruler I would use an old desk calendar.

If you are a scrapbooker and you tend to scrap 12x12, this is so true! I find that I have to move the grid paper around (since I still have some) when I am doing larger projects. It also isn't the best for painting, as the paint will stick to it and adhere paper to your project. So, I use my craft sheet for when I'm painting. The laminated grid paper would solve the sticking problem, but wouldn't solve the size issue.

another alternative to the grid paper is paper place mats. You can find them at places like Smart and Final or other warehouse type stores that carry paper goods.

I will never use anything but the grid paper. If you want a cushion, put the whole pad on the table top. I use it for measuring everything, and eyeing how straight I adhere layers. I couldn't live without it. I tape the bottom edge down on the top of a green quilters mat that is 23 x 17 that protects my desk. when the sheet gets too "art filled" it gets tossed and a new one is placed down. It takes me forever to go through a pad. I can keep a sheet on the desk for weeks or a month sometimes.

oh if I am doing something extra messy, I put a piece of scratch paper on top of it so the mess (glue, paint etc) won't transfer to my project. here is a picture of my work top.

I read Jennifer McGuire's blog and she uses a craft mat alot--would that work for stamping? Or would the ink transfer onto your cardstock in places you don't want it to? I know she used it for misting ink colors, etc....

My desk top looks just like SuG. I just reordered a new pad of these. The last pad of 100 lasted me about 5 years...I use each piece front and back until they are really bad...lol

I can't stamp without my SU grid paper. I use the grids and ruler all the time. I think my eyes are crooked or something.

This is what I use too! I love the grid for all sorts of alignments, even diagonals. I just center the corners of my card stock on one of the lines and I know I have it just right.
