I would appreciate recommendations for a bow maker. I like the one Our Daily Bread sells but I would prefer something easier to take to crops. I am looking for something that makes a small size bow for cards. Thanks.
Susan
I have the 10 second bow maker. Love it.
Makes bows as small as 1/2 inch to as large as 3.25 inches
Here is the website: 10 Second Bow Maker
although I have to admit ... there are some pretty comprehensive tutorials on pintrist that show how to use the tines of a fork to make very small bows.
I have a bow maker similar or the 10-second Bowmaker that I bought 5+ yrs ago and love it. It is a small square with the holes and has a clip 'thingy' for the posts when not in use. I just labeled it and have it tucked in my workshop bag with my other tools.
I am Bow Easy challenged!!! The Bow Easy is plastic so was slippery and my ribbon would not stay on the thing. It's thin like a credit card. Gave mine away. I know that GinaK uses this tool on her tutorials and it looked so easy but.....
You can make your own bow maker super easy and this will allow you to make them any size you wish. here's a quick video tutorial how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gB-e-sJaZe8

I bought a Becca's Bow Maker from Our Daily Bread designs over a year ago, but haven't put it together yet! I use the Bow Easy since it is so small......for some, it's a bit tedious to use at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's great! It's worth a little fumbling to get a perfect bow!
I love Becca's Bow Maker (Our Daily Bread Designs). I use it every time I need a bow, and it's so easy to make double and triple bows with this tool. It's not small but it has a prominent spot in my craft room! It also comes with a dvd that shows you how to make the bows - very helpful addition.

There is also a larger Bow Easy. I have a home made little wooden bow maker that is a 5 inch square piece of wood with holes drilled in it and then two dowel pegs you can place in the holes to make bows of different sizes.
I have a wooden one with the dowels that my hubbie made. It work great & does not take up much space. He makes them and sells them if you are interested.

Good question! Mostly I use a fork because most of my bows are very tiny. When I want a larger one I use a meat fork instead of a dinner fork. Pretty hi-tech huh!!
I started off trying to use a fork, then bought the Bow Easy and have never looked back. Once you get the hang of it - and there are lots of tutorials out there, it is just a pleasure to use.
Everyone seems to use it a little bit differently. I find that after putting my end through the top and tightening, it helps to put it back through the same spot to the back and pulling down. It makes the knot look better. Here's the video I like:
She does several bows, using different ribbons and also does a double bow.
Good luck in whatever you decide to get! A well-made bow really does make a project look so finished!

Yes, I have to agree with you that the Bow Easy would be better all around with longer "prongs", Dawn. I guess I don't really notice that limitation so much because I rarely make very large bows. Most things I make have to fit in an envelope, so it limits me to pretty small ones.

I have the Bow Easy and I hate using it. I love the bows it makes but I wish the "prongs" (for lack of better word) was longer.
The link I posted to the video above shows you how to make your own bow easy for any size bow and you can make the prongs as long as you wish. It's really a nice easy technique and is portable too. HTH.

my vote is for Stacy's Stamper Bow Maker. Wonderful little triangle and 2 two pegs. super easy and packs away for crops in just a few inches.

My dear, dear madameplushbottom - thank you soooooo much for posting this video. I make the ugliest bows in the face of the universe. Have various bowmakers and I could not use any of them. This works like a charm and I can make many sizes. YOU ROCK !!!!!!!

Send your friend Georgia a Hi Five from me also. I have the Bow Easy, but I think the ones she made and demonstrated will work better for me. I only use a couple of sizes of bows, and can have one for each size. The Bow Easy is an all-in-one with lots of slots, and not that user friendly.
It was genius on her part to use the SU word window punch to make the little slot in the middle!
By the way, she is very appealing on her video - a natural. Does she have other videos?

This is definitely the most user-friendly approach that I've come across. Thanks so much for posting the link!
2nd the thank you. Wow, what an easy and inexpensive way to make your own Bow Easy. I think one of the reasons I couldn't get the Bow Easy to work for me is it was just too slippery-my ribbon kept sliding off because the prongs were too short. I could never get the tail through the slot to tie the knot without the rest of the ribbon sliding off. With the material this lady used it is stiff enough but also grippy enough to 'hold' the ribbon. Must try this!
Oh my gosh bugga - yes, she does. You can subscribe to her youtube channel. She is one of the sweetest people I've ever met. She and a girlfriend plan to do some videos together in the future too that I am sure will be funny and helpful.
I will have to send her a link to this post so she can come see the love.
So glad you find her video helpful.
