I'm looking for a scallop punch that will allow me to layer with the SU! scallop punch, and I'm seeking the next larger size punch. Which punch have you found works best for this? Where did you buy it?
Yup, Michelle is right -- EK Success actually manufactures the SU! punch, and they sell other sizes of the same shape (I think they're contractually unable to sell the SU! size in stores).
AC Moore's just started carrying the matching nesting Scalloped Circle punches by EK Success. Try there. They also are now carrying 2 other nesting Oval punches as well 2 Scalloped Square punches and some other neat ones.
If you love the layered look, whether it's scallops or plain, I would invest in some Nestabilities...for the cost of a set of 5+ sizes, you can't buy 2 big punches. And as far as storage space you save a lot there too!

I have been wondering about a bigger scallop punch - wouldn't it be about $25 - aren't Nesties about $80? Or did I see the wrong price on a set of Nesties?
The $80 price you saw for Nesties was a 4-set combo. One set is more like $20, unless you have a coupon, such as a 40% off coupon from ucutathome.com or some other website, then it is less than $20. BTW, Laurie, I just noticed the "Supply Hoarder" phrase under your name -- love it! I had to laugh, because it could have described me! The Nesties do allow more space for more hoarding, but the punches are nice to have, too. It depends on the application as to which I prefer at the time.
Thanks, Bonnie, I was wondering how all these SCSers could afford all those Nesties - but at $20 or less a set, that makes more sense - do they work in the CB? My siggy line used to say "stamp and scrapbook supply hoarder" but wanted to add the purple line (from a toast I witnessed) so shortened it up...
The Mega scallop punch is too big for the SU one, and I think the next size down (Super Jumbo) is about the same as the SU one (2"), although I didn't actually try it, I just measured it. I haven't seen the EK sucess one yet that would work (I actually measure them). What worked for me was the Quickutz Cookie Cutter die set called Nesting Flowers (it's actually scallops). It retails for $24 but Cord Camera has them for 30% every day. Like the nesties, you get a whole bunch of sizes. I tried one that was about 2 1/4" and it was perfect behind the SU punch. AND I used it in my Cuttlebug...
HTH!

Thanks for the nestabilities idea. I have not seen them, and they look really neat. What type of device do you run them through to make them cut? Do you use a cuttlebug or does nestabilities make their own machine?
Hey back HoosierMama! Have you seen the scallop punches at any stores in the Tampa area?
And thank you for all your help, everyone else!
OT -- I must introduce you to my friend norway76 whose avi is almost the exact match to yours. Although I think her black lab is larger than her golden.
The sizes of the scallops on the giga and mega punches are not the same width as those on the SU! punch. Maybe the new catalog will have a new one for us.
here's some pics I took of the SU punch (orange paper) and the larger one(red paper) by EK Success. It says it's 2". There is a smaller 1 1/2" punch too, but it doesn't nest well with these two (imho)...
Sorry the one pic is blurry.

That picture was helpful! The Super Jumbo says it is 2" so that MAY work...the Quickutz die I have is a little larger, like 2 1/4", so there is a little more of a border with that one...I'll have to try and take a picture for you. It is more like the difference between the Mega & Giga punches...

OK here is the pic...I guess the shape of the scallops is a little different, so you may not like that. I think it still looks good, and I like the wider margin. One thing about the QK dies, though, is they "nest," meaning it's more like a ring rather than a complete circle, KWIM?
Anyone have a pic of the Nesties with the SU??

Sticking my nose in here - shellca and nottoocreative (HA! A misnomer if ever I saw one!) - this is very helpful to me - I know exactly what to buy now. Thanks for taking the time to help me not waste my money! :o)

I should clarify, with the QK dies you can make a ring OR a filled scallop (for a ring you would put the next smaller size die inside the bigger one, for a regular filled scallop you would just use the one size of die).
And, you're quite welcome ValerieCathleen and I LOVE your siggy quote, made me ROTFLMAO

Goals for 2015 50 scrapbook pages/50 cards---progress 35/50 cards Complete my daughter's wedding scrapbook album Spend more time enjoying my friends and not so much time obsessing on work!!!

I don't see any Nesties that would work with the SU punch...calculating in 1/4" increments from the largest size given in each set, I only get down to about 2 1/2" at the most (which is about what the Giga is, too big)...
does anyone with the smallest scallop Nesties have the SU punch too?

Actually the smallest scallop nestie is smaller than the SU punch...there is one in each set that is smaller than the SU punch, and there is one in the small set that is identical in size however the scallops are slightly more numerous. Each set has one that works nicely underneath the SU punch or even over it for the layered look.
I have both sizes in the nesties as well as the SU punch, so I am saying this from actual trial, not just from measuring and guessing.
Hope this helps!

Just got back from a trip, but I can take pics of each size nestie with the scallop and will post later tonight for those who would like a comparison and prefer not to purchase both sizes in the nesties.

Ok...here are photos of the SU Scallop Punch in RUST, with the Nesties Scallop Circles. I used the SMALLEST 2 from each set, SM & LG for a total of 4 subsequent sizes. The left side of each photo is the larger set, and the right side is the smaller nesties set. The brown bottom layer on the left is the 2nd smallest of the LG set, which seems to be the best fit underneath. The smallest of the SM set is the best layer over the SU Scallop Circle.
Hope this helps!

Cher, thank you soooo much...but I couldn't see the photos for some reason? this has happened to me before but I'm not sure why. Did you post them as an attachment?

I got a 2 5/16" scallop punch by Paper Studio at Hobby Lobby which is a larger layer for the SU scallop. You have to use your whole body weight to punch it but it's the right size. $16.99 regular price. Got it 1/2 off when punches were on sale.
That worked, thanks Cher! I guess I can't see embedded photos (same thing happens on some blogs)...
Just to make sure I am following this: it looks like the 2nd smallest size of the "Large" Nesties set would work the best behind the SU punch, if you want to see a margin? Whereas, on TOP of the SU punch, you would want the smallest of the "Small" set...right?
DUH I see that's exactly what you already said...guess I couldn't follow it until I studied the pictures!
