Anyone have a preference? I have looked at both the Scor-Pal & the Scor-It tools, in great detail & they each serve a purpose. I was just wondering if you prefer working with one more than the other & for what reason.
I have used both, and definitely prefer the clean edge the Scor-It gives. The edge isn't nearly as neat with the Scor-Pal. The Scor-Pal is much more jagged. That said, I do like how easy it is to do multiple folds with the Scor-Pal, however. I'm sticking with my Scor-It.

I'm confused what you mean by "jagged"?? how can a fold be jagged? I know a cut can be jagged....but a fold is entirely different...can you clarify?
I've tried both and the scor pal is the one I bought. My eyes aren't what they used to be and measuring isn't my cup of tea. Not having to move the paper is the biggest selling point to me. I cranked out 20 nugget boxes in one hour and didn't have to measure anything!
Great question! I have been reading about them and thinking about asking it too! Thanks for all the advice so far and in advnace for anymore. I would also like to know what are the differences between them.
I have been wondering about this as well, however, the decision was made for me when my LSS had a 40% off sale last week and I walked in and saw the Scor-it. Bought it, love it. Gives a really nice, crisp line and I was able to figure out how to use it without even going to the website for directions. Also it is very lightweight and portable which is a huge plus for me since I travel between 2 countries with my supplies twice a year.

I played with a Scor It at my LSS and thought it was nice, but wasn't convinced. I now have a Scor Pal and love it. I like that the Scor It will score at any measurement, but I didn't like having to actually figure out the measurements myself. With the Scor Pal, you don't have to really think much. You just line up the paper and find the right marking on the board. Plus, there are so many grooves, you don't have the move the paper to make multiple score lines. My parents were in town for Christmas and even my dad thought it was really cool. He wanted me to show him how to use it. He actually helped me make little boxes to put candy in!

are you sure it's the Scor-It?? That thing is far from lightweight...it's a solid board of wood with a neoprine surface......
My scor-it is not that heavy. I am sure it is heavier then the score pal, but I prefer to have something be a bit more solid when I put pressure on it.
That said I love LOVE my scor-it. Do I have to figure out the measurements I need, yes, but if I need to score something on an off measurement I can do that, like 2-15/16. I would not want to have to try and figure out where to line up on the score pal, having to move the paper to the X mark, in order to score something, while making sure my paper is laying straight down, and making sure that I don't move the paper while scoring, then moving to another place to score again. I just can't see trying to keep everything in place in order to do my score. The scor-it has a surface on it that keeps the paper from moving around while I score it. I also get nice crisp score lines with my scor-it.
Of course this is all my opinion and as I don't own a score pal, only seen it used once and have not played with it up close and personal, well I guess I can not be a fair judge of the two of them.

I have the Scor-pal and I adore it. There is no learning curve to it. I was at a LSS with a friend who is interested in a scoring tool and they demo'ed the Score-it to her and neither of us could figure it out and the demonstrator had problems with it other than doing the score for folding the cardstock in half. I like the scor-pal as there are no explanations needed and my folds are very crisp with no jaggedness.
I have the original Scor-it and the baby (or mini) scor-it. I love them both! The mini one is handy for when I go to crops. I have yet to see the scor-pal but have heard several people say that they like how you don't have to move your paper to score several lines. I would have liked the scor-it to have that ability.

Nothing "jagged" with my scores with the Scor-Pal!
I found out about the Scor-it a few years ago, sounded like a neat tool, but I found out it was $60 and I wasn't about to spend that to make a score.
Then when the Scor-Pal came out recently, well, I saw it as an improvement, but cheaper. It has many score lines, so you don't have to move the paper, and it's $40 (unless you live near an Archivers and can use a coupon).
So I got one. And it's terrific.

Ircently got a Scor-Pal and am sorry I didn't get one sooner! It is very lightweight and easy to use. I like how the tool locks into the bottom so I won't lose it. It also was more affordable.
I have never used the Scor-It, but I read from a few people that they had trouble with the "clip" - it would fall off or break? - that & the combined price is what prompted me to order teh SCor-Pal. I am so glad I did!
I've never seen a Scor-It, but my Scor-pal has done it all for me for all the reasons given, my favorite feature being I don't have to think!

This is the deciding factor for me--I hate it when even the demo person can't figure out how to use it properly!!

Thanks Everyone- You've helped me a lot_ Ha! It's clear as mud now. I guess I am going to have to buy both. But after a great deal of reasearch, I found one of the biggest difference between the two, is that the Scor-It, scors on the top of the paper & the Scor-Pal scores on the bottem of the paper. Scor -it actually creates a professional printers "pinch" and creates a folding line and the paper goes up into the scoring tool, where as the Scor-pal pushes the paper down into a groove like our cutters. The other big difference is that the Scor-it only has one groove & the Scor-pal has multilple ones so with the scor-it you need to keep moving the paper each time you want a new scor, & where as the scor-pal locks the paper in and you just keep scorign multiple times. They both serve their purposes & have their ups & downs. That's why I'm getting both. The Scor-pal I will use to work with camps that requires a lot of scoring & 12x12 projects & making boxes, pop crakers, 3-D projects, etc. The Mini-Scor-It I will use for my personal use when I am doing a card for someone & want a nice fold. It was described to me from the manufacturer of the Scor-it to think of the grain in the paper as a sea of toothpicks. Each time you push down on the toothpicks like you do as if you bent your fingers down, one way or another it's easy to break those toothpicks, as opposed to seperating them & pushing them aside. The scor-pal actually crushes those fibers instead of bending them like the scor-it does, but it serves a purpose that my cutter doesn't, as unprofessional as it is.
I never really wanted to spend at least $60 on two different types of scoring tools but I do it so much and I'm so unhappy with the one groove of the cutter that I feel I need to in order to be satisfied with my outcome. Satisfied that I can scor mulitple lines in a hurry all at once & satisfied that I can get a true professional crimp that creates a real fold instead of a flattening of the fibers.
Hope that helps & I haven't created an scoring wars.
