SISSIX/CUTTLEBUG -DECISIONS - CAN YOU HELP ME OUT ?
Hi there Everyone,
I am looking to buy a die cut machine. I have looked at Sissix and Cuttlebug. There seem to be so many extra accessories + different plates/folders and stuff and I don't know what I should buy to start off.
I rather fancy a Sissix but can anyone give me advice on what's the best one to go for and what I need???
I would say go with the Sizzix Big Shot. It's more versatile than the Cuttlebug. It's also made better in my opinion. I've never had a plate break on me when using the Big Shot. I have had a plate break on the Cuttlebug.
I have a big shot and know it's more versatile becaue it cuts a wider range of materials. The "extras" that I know about are rather inexpensive and are needed to adapt to all thicknesses of die cuts. From wafer thin to what seems like 1/2 inch. A very sturdy machine.
I purchased the Cuttlebug and I loved it. My daughter got me a Big Shot for Christmas...I sold the Cuttlebug! No more shims, no more guessing the sandwich...it is all listed in diagrams right on the BS base plate.

Another Big Shot fan here. I've used friend's Cuttlebugs, they work okay, but the BS is a much more sturdy machine. Plus, I like that I can use any die in it. The Cuttlebug can cut most dies, but not the wide Sizzix XL dies. I think they are abit too wide. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
Anyway, I've had the same BS since 2001. I use it for every card in some fashion and it's still going strong 10 years later.
I have a cuttlebug and I wish I had a big shot. It does what it is supposed to with its own accessories, but I would like to be able to use other dies in it without needing a miracle to get the proper sandwich in it. Every time I use a different brand die in it, I worry it will be the time the bug will break.

I just love my Cuttlebug. Never had a problem with it since I bought it 5 years ago. I can fold it up and tuck it away when I am not using it, leaving more counter space for me. When folded up,(it's the size of a small pocketbook) it is also light weight and easy to transport to classes or crops. I have found that it works with most dies and embossing plates. Used my 50% off coupon at my local craft store to purchase it, leaving me more $$ to spend on accessories.

A big shot fan here too!!! I have the pro- only cause I scrapbook so I like the bigger dies. I love the fact that I can cut any dies, it is just a matter of what sandwich to use.

I agree. I had a Cuttlebug and a BS and always seemed to use the CB more. I think I used the BS less than a dozen times. The BS took up a lot of space on my cutting table too.
