Did I read here somewhere about a way to use brass templates (for dry embossing) on a Sizzix Machine? I don't think I dreamed this, and would love to know if it's possible? I read about a new die cut machine on this site too--perhaps it is multipurpose and can do both? Can anyone help? Thanks! Kay-Kay
I know you can purchase dry embossing templates for the Sizzix machine...I have the acorn one that came complimentary with a purchase of the Sizzlits converter. Are you thinking that we could use a SU brass template in our Sizzix machine?
Yes, I could have sworn that I read somewhere there is a way or perhaps a new machine that could "imprint" from the brass templates. It would be so wonderful not to have to trace these by hand over a light table! Imagine the possibilities! Tracing by hand just kills me but I love the end result! Thanks for your input. Kay
Yes you can dry emboss with a sizzix but it is with their own line of embossing dies. Their dies are in a plastic file-like folder that has a negative and positive to emboss the item.
There is a machine out called the Wizard (I think) that you can emboss with any templates, but I think one of the down sides is that it embosses the whole thing including the square edge, which is ok if you are cutting the item out.
Have you tried the new Empressor tool with the cushion grips? I think it is wonderful, I did a swap with 50 cards and embossed them all and my fingers and hand didn't hurt at all like it used to.
I talked with a sizzix rep at a scrapbook convention. He said you can use other stencil beside theirs. He said you would need a converter. He also said you need a piece of flat rubber to put over the stencil. I have not tried it yet, so I don't know how well it works.

I just went to the Creative Keepsakes Natl Scrapbooking Convention where I saw a Sizzix demonstrator use the flat piece of rubber over a non-Sizzix brass stencil template and it worked like a charm! I can't believe how much time it saves using the thing. They also said Sizzix will be coming out with some clear plastic sleeve things that the templates can go into to eliminate the need for the piece of rubber. There is also a new Sizzix machine called the Sizzix Sidekick that is a portable die cutter you can use Sizzlits on. So cool! It will be out on the market in January, I believe, for $40.
What kind of "flat rubber" did they use? I've done it before by putting a couple of note pads under the white plastic piece that comes with the sizzix. I works most of the time, sometimes the image isn't complete. You can also do this using the Quikcutz dies on your Sizzix.
Big thanks to everyone who has posted responses to my Sizzix question! I can't wait to try some of these ideas. If it works out I'll let you know which idea I had the most success with. I, too, think it would just be wonderful not to have to trace around the brass templates on a light table. I love this website! Thanks again! Kay-Kay
I just purchased a Wizard and the sales company told me that you can cut a piece of thin rubber just slightly smaller than the brass stencil outer edge. Then when you send it through the Wzard, you will avoid getting the frame edge embossed on your paper. I would think this would hold true for the Sizzix, as well. Haven't yet tried it, I'm afraid, but it makes good mechanical sense. I love the effect the machine has on embossed card! It makes light work for those of us with arthritis in our hands.
