So excited! I just ordered the big shot -now what?
I already have the cuttlebug, but I've been looking at the big shot. Well, I won a contest at work and they gave me a 50.00 gift card from Amazon. So I went ahead and ordered it! So tell me, what do you love about your Big Shot and what do you do with it that you can't with the cuttlebug?

I love the Big Shot. I had the Cuttlebug but returned it because it did not work with the large Sizzix dies. I love making boxes, using my nestabilities, embossing folders, etc. It is one tool that I would never give up. I purchased the original Sizzix years ago and I still keep it. If you go to the Sizzix website, you can get some great deals on the dies. In fact, I received an email this morning and they are having a huge sale right now. Enjoy!
Congratulations on your win, Karen!! I had the CB also and got the BS and loved it so much more! It is more stable and easier to operate. . . I had trouble with the CB not gripping the surface I used it on and it's top-heavy so tippy. I used my BS MUCH more than the CB - I couldn't explain why. . . it was more fun to use!
I am pretty new to die cutting but I am amazed each time what a quick and clean cut my Big Shot makes with no effort. Now I'm wondering why I waited so long to try such a fun and versatile tool.

I love my Big Shot immensely. I would strongly recommend getting the multi-purpose platform if yours did not come with one. It takes all the guesswork out of cutting; no 'sandwiches' or any complicated stuff. This is my favorite thing about the Big Shot.
You can do a lot more pieces of cs at one time. My friend uses her scalloped square die to make rag quilts and I think she said she uses 8 pieces of flannel with each run through. On another note, I am so jealous. I covet a BS, but I already own a cuttlebug and a cricut so I have guilt about getting one.
Have fun with your new toy!
LOVE my Big Shot! I used it for years with tons of sizzlet alpha dies for my scrapbooking (got a bunch of them for $10/set at Michaels a couple of years ago, so I have lots of choices), but since I started making cards more than keeping up on my scrapbook, I LOVE it for embossing folders and my nesties!
okay ladies, question. I just rec'd my big shot. It came with the multi purpose platform and two clear plates. However, looking at the directions, it appears I need something else to but with my nesties!!! Help!
What do I need???? Am I doing something wrong???

You shouldn't need anything else. Sometimes a piece of cardstock as a shim but usually not. Follow the directions on the platform for "Thin Dies" which is all layers of the platform. It should always feel tight going through but not so tight that you have to force it and if it goes through too easily, then you need to add some thickness to your stack either by flipping another platform layer over and occasionally by adding a piece of cardstock. The multipurpose platform allows you to flip layers back and forward as you need them and you will need all of them for Nesties. HTH.

You can also create an embossed edge after you cut with your nesties that give it nice dimension and a finished look. The link to Ellen Hutson's tutorial that Rosiebudstamp provided will give you the correct sandwich for that and it does require the tan embossing mat or similar product. Enjoy your new toy!
