Does anyone know if you have to have the Texturz silicone rubber and the Texturz Impressions pads with the texture plates or if you can get by without?
I think you have to have them. I don't see how you could use them without it. I bought a starter kit at ACMoore using a 40% coupon but you could get it from SU or order it from the Sizzix website. You can also substitute similar pads from other companies, like the ones from Spellbinders.
You do need something "like" the silicon pad. You need something soft that will squish/mold the paper into the nooks & crannies of the Texturz plate. And you need something hard (like the Impressions plate) to squish against.
Some people have tried plumbers gasket, found at your local home supply store, to substitute for the silicon pad.
I used a 40% coupon and got the starter kit (which included 3 double-sided plates, the silicon pad and the Impressions plate) at Michaels. Joann and other places that carry Sizzix might have them, too. (Hobby Lobby, at least in the Cincinnati area, doesn't carry Sizzix.)
While the link states that the plates "require" a multipurpose platform, I used the plates for years in a Cuttlebug without one.
I just bought the SU! texture plates and can't for the life of me figure out how to get them to work in the Cuttlebug. They seem too thick. Got any tips?
The texture plates fit very nicely through a CB (and a Big Shot/Big Kick and probably many other machines). Here's a pic of one I took to show someone that they do, indeed, fit through a CB. The plate isn't one of the SU exclusives (it's a "regular" Texturz plate), but it's the same size.
It's a tight fit, but I like a deep impression. Remove one or both of the cardstock shims (on top of the Cuttlebug A plate) if the sandwich won't go through your CB. There's definitely a little variation from one machine to the next as to what will fit through.

I know the wizard tan embossing mat isn't as big as the texturz plates, but I bet that would work in this sandwich as well. I just got the SU! texturz plates and haven't had a chance to play with them yet. I'll try the above posted sandwich!
just wondering if the spellbinders silicone would work...i just ordered the texturz impressions mat and decided to divide my order and wait on the texturz silicone mat.
anyone try this yet?

The Spellbinders silicone will work (if it's large enough). You just need something soft-ish that will press the paper into the nooks & crannies of the Texturz plate. (The same philosophy holds for the Fiskars plates.)
Help!! What am I doing wrong??? I have the bigshot and when I use my texture plates it seems to scoot the paper forward so the empression it not where I want it. I sandwiched by the directions on the mulitpurpose plateform.??
I've had good results using a couple pieces of fun foam. I put my A plate, the texture plate, my cardstock, couple pieces fun foam, and my last plate (B or C - which ever to get the required thickness).
StampinGramMa: Did you ever find the solution to the SU Textured Impression Plates in the Big Shot scooting through the machine without making the impression where you want it on your paper because the sandwich doesn't stay together? The silicone pad slips and shifts the paper. Anyone out there have the answer? Thanks!

Was this in the Big Shot? I hate to pay so much for the silicone pad and the impressions pad.

This is the sandwich I use for my Cuttlebug, but I'm sure you don't have to use the SU products. Lots of people use their big shot and the texture plates without them. I've since discovered too that the silicon baking sheets cut up work really well. You can get plumbers' gasket at the hardware store that will work, and I've also used sheets of cork (but that tends to break down after a while). Another trick I use with the texture plates is to mist my cardstock. I use a mix of rubbing alcohol and water (anywhere from about a 25/75 to 50/50 alcohol/water mix). It softens up the paper fibres so they take the shape of the texture plates better.
