Do any of you know or still have the blue tin of Stampin Up Watercolour Pencils? If so, do you happen to also know if the colours match the SU cardstock/inks etc?
Yes, I have them and NO they do not match SU cardstock. The greens are all basically the same ugly bright green!! I have always wondered why they don't match the SU colors!!!
I have found that I am able to match them to Non SU designer paper pretty well. They tend to change color slightly after I use a blender pen so I make sure I blend the colors THEN pick out my paper!!
HTH!

Thank you so much ladies for taking the time to answer my question, I will now go and sulk and wish I hadn't bought them!!!! he he
Don't sulk, I use mine all the time! They don't match totally, but they have some great colors and I use them to color an image. I don't really care about exact matching for that, a chick should be yellow... so I use yellow, a deer should be brown, heart are pink & red, etc. They are great for coloring in small areas too, you can sharpen them up to a great point.

They don't match great but...they are fun to use!! I enjoy them when I think to use them so don't feel too bad, just try them and have fun!! I like to scribble on a piece of scrap paper and pick the color up with an aqua painter.
As said, they are not an exact match. But as also said, they are still usable! I use them all the time and love the look of watercolor when I color in my images. I hope you will try them first before you give up on them!

You can mix any brand of watercolors to make any shade. Here is a chart that will help - for example, the gray and purple make Perfect Plum. This wonderful product is even better when combined with OMS (Gamsol, Mona Lisa or whatever brand you like). The Stampin'Up pencils are AWESOME - you just have to work with them awhile (giggle).

I really enjoy using mine for coloring Bella's and Hanna's. I use the blender pen-makes the colors pop more. And even the colors are the exact match, you can get the same color tones ie: pinks on your card, or blues on your card etc-and it all looks great!
I love my pencils, I didn't use them for a long time and now I wonder WHY??? I don't care that the colors don't match the paper I'm not looking for that. I 'm looking for shading and blending and out of all the pencils I have tried I get the best results from my SU pencils.
I love the way they lay down and then when I blend them out with water "POW" they are just awesome I get some fantastic results.

You can also rub an aquapainter or blender pen right on the tip of the pencil to pick up the color. This gives a nice pastel color.

I always used my watercolor crayons until I bought some House Mouse stamps. I found that I needed a coloring instrument with a finer tip. So I just bought some SU watercolor pencils and played with them for the first time yesterday. I love them! I do need to practice with them though. I noticed that I need to color with a "softer" hand and use the blender pen after coloring the entire area. When I use my crayons, I was able to color randomly and use the blender pen to spread the color to the uncolored areas. You can't do that with the pencils. It is a very nice coloring alternative.

Actually, if you have a nice watercolour paper you can colour randomly and spread the colour out with either an aquapainter or a paint brush and water. My preference is a fine paint brush and water I can lift as much colour as I want to get my shading the way I want it and I can control the water better.
