I re-organized my spots a few years ago. I keep them in the original cardboard boxes they came in, but I grouped them by color rather than the SU families. I cut a piece of white cardstock to the size of the box top then stamped each color on the cover so I could see right away what the color looked like without having to look at the name. I also wrote the names under the stamped swatches. I keep the spots in the box in the same position as the swatches on the cover so I can quickly grab them without sorting through them. This has worked very well for me.
I keep these boxes in a drawer in my Iris Cart right next to my craft desk.
I have attached photos of the spots. And yes, there are 60 spots here. These include not only the current 48 colors but the old retired ones as well.
If you're having trouble finding the clear box at Target, they also fit (yes all 48!) inside one of the ScrapOnizers - just take out the insert!
Wow, I just went to this site and these storage cases look great. I have alot of Cat's Eyes stamp pads that I keep in two thin clear pencil cases that I purchased at Office Max or Office Depot, can't remember. One case contains about 28 cats eyes. They can be turned upside down and since the case is thin they stay in place. They have a click type latch for closure. I'm sure the ink spots would fit in there nicely too. I got this idea when I went to a class by Nathlie M.(not sure I'm spelling correctly) from Magenta stamps and she used Cats Eyes for DTP technique and this is how she stored them.
I like to keep all my spots in one easy to carry case. I could never get one at my Target that was tall enough, so I ended up getting a clear one at Office Depot called a project case. It fits 56 spots perfectly in one layer and when full, the spots don't turn over or anything. I liked that it fit more than the 48 so that I can put in a black spot and some blank ones that I filled with the in colors.
May I ask, why do you store your stampin spots upside down ? Should all the regular ink pads be stored upside down too or just the spots ? I have both dye and pigment ink in the regular pads. Thanks.

I don't store any of my spots, catseyes, or dew drops upside down and haven't had any issue with them drying out. I store them in all together in a small case in a drawer as I like being able to easily see all the colors.
I store my Cat's eyes in these spacemaker pencils cases as I said earlier in this thread but here are some photo's. They are thin and just have one layer. When closed they can be turned any way and they don't get jumbled.
I store my Palette ink spots in the SU plastic clam shells. (Although I'm up to five now.) I like the relatively small size and they stack nicely on my desk inside a CD crate that is turned on its side. My project yesterday was to finally label all of the spots with an Avery label on the top and the bottom. I stamped a little solid flower in that ink's color on both labels. I found that I was always stamping a sample with the inks to find the right shade. The Avery label # 05428 fits perfectly across the top. 1000 labels for around $7. They come on 4"x6" sheets and run nicely through the printer. I hadn't originally planned on labeling the bottoms but the first time I printed them out, the font looked so tiny. Now I am really glad that I did this in case I mix the lids up.
