check out this ebay sale for the Holy Triptych mini catalog stamp
set that expired in November http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=013
This sale has three days left. Why does SU have these small catalogs
with only a few months to purchase a set, then we see samples made on this
site and can no longer get the set. They could have made a bundle of sales on this set, it's a great sale on ebay ALWAYS
This started out at 9.99 and only 4 bids, shows someone really wants this set and isn't afraid to pay for it.
Also, does anyone know when we can request this stamp set in ISO forum if the sale was over in November mini;

I know Demonstrators are not allowed to sell the stamp set from a mini until 1 year has passed. Just because it is no longer available doesn't mean it won't show up in the Fall-Winter 2008 Idea Book and Catalog.
I'm sorry to hear you are looking for the set and can't get it. The new catalog will be out in August, so you'll know then if it made it.
You can always try the BST Forum and do a ISO. Someone might have it for trade.

every time I see an auction like this I can't help but HOPE it makes the catalog. Remember those crazy bidders paying up to $100 for Monkey Business and it came back in the next catalog? I laughed my butt off at those people who just "had" to have it but could have placed an entire workshop order for just a bit more AND still got the set...
Maybe this one will do the same...
Enough people get burned on EBay and they'll eventually stop going there!
I saw it in the mini catalog and had to have it. I'm still trying to get that Nativity set with the silouette designs.
It would certainly make sense for SU to keep the top sellers around. I think the idea of the mini catalogs is to spur new interest with new products. It creates "immediacy" to purchase.
For years I have gone to auctions (furniture, antiques, etc) & know how anyone can get caught up in a bidding 'fever'. I've never sold anything on ebay but have made purchases - and agree some bids seem over the top - but people aren't getting burned when they pay what they decided to bid for an item. The secret is to do your homework & know something about what you are interested in, then decide how much you are willing to spend (incl. s/h) & stick to it. I know a demo who paid 2-3 x's the original price for a retired SU to do her Christmas cards one year, & then listed it on ebay when she finished with it. Don't know if she recovered what she paid or not but she was sure happy with her cards!
BTW - this was one set I just couldn't resist when it was in the mini even though the $$$ was a bit high. It is just beautiful & a real classic.

that's the thing... the new catty comes out in a month... Christmas is still 4 months away... so even if they waited until August to see if it comes out again or not, they're still going to have plenty of time to get it for Christmas cards... the people bidding this high on it right now haven't done their homework. They're going to feel pretty silly when the new catty comes out and the set is (possibly) in there for less than what they paid for a USED set on the bay...

I wish SU would bring back some of the older set that were in the mini's and Old catty's cause i got on to stampin up in 2004-2005 and seem to miss a lot of what I was looking for in stamp sets.:( I can buy the older ones on e-bay or wherever I can, but are spending a lot more then what they were retailed @ in the catty's cause of shipping and demands/biddings.Has anyone else had this problem?? I realize that when bidding on ebay that you get what you pay for and to know your limits but it would be nice to have a small mini catty with top older sets.It would let SU get a second kick for $$$ at older sets too. Oh well that's my rant Thanks for listening!

I agree! I had a lot of older catalogs. I threw them out because they took too much space, but I tore out the pages of some sets I loved and wanted to find on ebay. Ancient artifacts was one of those. I was a hobby SU seller in 03 to 05 and bought a lot of sets. When money was real tight a year ago I sold many of them and got my money back in most cases. I miss some of them! I obviously don't have that much need for 100's of sets to make cards for my personal use. I think I like to collect them.
When is their 20th anniversary coming? It would be GREAT to have some of the 20 top stamp sets for sale again, like they did before with dreams and dragons etc. It should be ones still in style. Those "country" type sets looked dated.
yeah would be nice if they could get a top 20 sellers for the last 20 years to celebrate ... but it's sorta out with the old in with new this year so i dunno if they would do it this year. I'll just have to keep looking out for it and have to deal with ebay and other places to get my older set fixes!which is a shame cause i really do love some of the sets, but can't afford the bidding wars.I guess that's how to tell if it's a collecting hobby or an actual hobby... Oh Well Happy stamping to you all!! thanks for listening!
I've bought lots and lots of retired SU sets on ebay. Most sell for far below the original price and they are already mounted. It's RARE that they sell for over the original price. And for that matter, remember that prices have gone up. Look at those sets like wildlife reserve, $30.95 for 14 stamps! It's about to be retired. The sets seem to stay at their original price, not go up year to year. Sometimes I have thought a set I was bidding on was expensive. Then I would look at how many stamps were in there, and what they'd likely cost per stamp new now.
that was exactly what I was talking about when you could have gotten something like that from the catty @ 10.95 or whatever the original was but they want like $37 or more now on ebay... it's just crazy!! I can see a bit more from original cause it is not available anymore but still that's the sorta stuff I run into when I see old sets I like. Just my taste and luck I guess lol... I've gotten a few reasonable priced sets, but yeah people will pay stupid high amounts for a set they want. That is why I was saying it would be nice if SU could bring back sets for a mini catty even if they upped the price a bit still people would buy it . And SU would get extra $$

If you look into the details, it is not that the seller wants $37. It started at only $8.50. It is the bidders who have been pushing the price up.
All items in the SU! mini catalogs are considered current until one year from the first day of the mini catalog period, unless they are carried over into a regular catalog. For example, Holiday 2007 mini sets wont be retired until September 1, 2008 one year from the first day of the mini catalog period. Future Sell-a-bration sets current status to be announced - August 11, 2008.
Postings in the ISO (want to buy) forum may not include current SU! merchandise. Current or retired SU! stamp sets may be traded, however. Post your listing in the Trade forum.
I don't think it's against any rules for a SU demo to BUY stamps on ebay regardless if they are retired? I have not been a demonstrator and just recently signed up again.
Last year, I think, my demo said that SU would not be putting any Sell A Bration sets in the catty, anymore, and very few mini sets. This year's SAB catty says that they will not be available for sale, but I don't think it says the same in the Occasions. I snagged Dreams and Dragons for $35. For like, 15 stamps that I had to have I thought that was a great deal! I watch Snowglobe every so often, but can't make myself pay $50.

I don't think sell a bration sets are ever in the main catalog. I don't recall that.
Is there any place that discusses camparison of the IN colors? Buckaroo blue compared to blue bayou? Red riding hood and purely pomegranite and cranberry crisp? It's just be nice to see the old colors printed next to the new colors, pretty true to life.
