Question SU Craft Ink vs. Versamark for embossing??

I am considering getting the craft ink spots, so that I can emboss in any of the SU colors. As an alternative, I tried to stamp my image in Versamark, then my classic ink and then heat emboss with clear powder. I didn't get much of a "raised" image like I had hoped. My question is...Does embossing with the craft ink pads give more of a raised image than using the Versamark? I hope this makes sense. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks-Jamie

Versamark is not quite as wet as craft ink so more embossing powder will stick to the craft ink. The more powder, the more intense the embossed look. I have never tried to double stamps like you did, but I would try to first stamp in the color then the versamark so more powder will stick.

Smile Craft ink vs. VersaMark

Embossing with Craft ink will give you a bolder, brighter embossed image. It's my preferred choice between the two. The only time I use VersaMark then Classic ink is for the In Colors that don't come in the Craft ink option.

I haven't tried it, but what I have read on here is that you ink your stamp with Versamark and then with classic ink. (it doesn't hurt your ink pad) Then when you stamp, the Versamark is on top.

One thing I want to mention - and this is totally my experience, it may not happen with you - is when I got my craft spots, they weren't nearly as juicy as a full sized craft pad. However, I still was able to get a really nicely raised image when I embossed with them. Just make sure you really squish the pad down good on your stamp.

Just wanted you to know this so you weren't surprised like I was.

Hmm, seems like a lot of extra work by inking twice. I rarely use colored embossing powders except metalics (gold, etc.) and then I'll use the versamark or my embossing pad. For color embossing I go with pigment inks (craft, etc). If I want the embossing to be thicker I just add more embossing powder while its still hot. The rule of thumb is that when there is more ink you can get more embossing powder to stick. On the ocassion where I don't get enough embossing powder because the ink wasn't wet enough I touch it up with an embossing pen and then add more embossing powder.

yes...you get that normal raised image when you use the craft inks. That is why I bought all the spots....I wanted to do the same thing. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! It's SO MUCH FUN to do. So...yes...I recommend it!

i bought the spots for that purpose only. I love it and the spots dont take up as much room as the full pads.

Thanks, everyone, for your input. I think that I may go ahead and invest in the craft spots, so that I can emboss in any color. You are all so awesome!!!

Are there any other resources for "craft ink" aside from SU? Would love to try this-I am not having much luck embossing. I really like the idea of stamping with colored ink and just using clear EP. Thanks!

SU! craft pads are filled with pigment ink versus classic pads that are dye / waterbased ink.

You can emboss with almost any 'pigment' ink pad because they dry slower so you have time to apply the embossing powder before the ink dries. My favs are Encore and Brilliance.

Thanks......will give it a try with some Brilliance. Any other tips? :-)
My embossing does not seem to come out evenly.........I put a lot of powder on after stamping with the versamark, but it just doesn't seem to come out pretty! I also tried using a little spoon and sprinkled it on in a more controlled fashion, but that didn't seem to help either........sigh.........I will keep trying though, cuz I love the look!
Thanks again!

When I emboss I just dump the powder on, shake it off, and heat set. Sometimes I use an embossing buddy to keep the embossing powder from sticking to the paper where there is no wet ink. If its uneven it sounds like either the ink isn't wet enough to hold the embossing powder or maybe the powder isn't any good anymore.

What are craft spots? Are they the little Color Box inks? I don't have much luck with embossing either. I keep trying, though! Thanks! Donna

I own all the full size craft ink pads.. but tend to use this method. I stamp my image in classic ink.. then using my stampimijig I stamp again in versamark and then clear embossing and it works wonderfully.. Pam

Craft spots are the 1 x 1 in. SU! stamp pads that contain pigment ink that doesn't dry as quickly as dye or chalk ink.
