It is tacky bright? LOL! I'm looking for a really nice, true red but with a VERY slight touch of black in it so it's not bright like a primary red. I have the marker, but I'm wondering about the paper. I'm considering Riding Hood Red, but if Real Red isn't too loud I'd rather avoid the In Colors if possible. Thoughts?
I'd be happy to send you a small sample of each color. Just PM me your address.
If you want a little black in it, I'd go with the Riding Hood Red.
I was going to suggest RH Red also. Real Red isn't "tacky" (not TOO bright) but it's definitely a PRIMARY color. There's a blog somewhere, also, that shows the In Colors compared to similar colors--that may help you to see the difference between the two. Unfortunately I don't have the link on this computer, but you might be able to find it by searching on "riding hood red." It was an early post, shortly after the In Colors came out, I think...
HTH!

Ladies....I would describe Stampin' Up's "Real Red" as the same as the Crayola Crayon Red. In my opinion, this applies to both their card stock and the large ink pad.

what about ruby red? it's a slight bit darker red.
I love Real Red and go through a lot of it. I wouldn't call it 'tacky' at all. To me it's a pure red that goes beautifully with white or black. Riding Hood is okay, too, but very different.

I used Real Red for my Christmas cards this year and agree that it is a "pure" red. Here's a link to my card and you can see it next to white CS: Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
I use Real Red all the time - it's the only Bold Bright colour I own - I don't like the brights. I don't think you would find it too bold to go with your other SU cardstock.
I love real red, it's a tad darker than the red that comes in the crappy paper packs from Michael, KWIM? That red seems more "primary" or "kiddie"...real red is more sophisticated and grown up, IMO.

real red to me is a dark red but not a scarlet red. of the bold brights collection RR is more bold than bright. i think riding hood red is just a shade too pink to be a "real" red in my opinion
