I bought TONS of the $1 Spot tin pails from Target the other day because they were a whopping .25 cents each. I brought them home and realized I didn't know what to do with them. I browsed the gallery and got some inspiration but I have one question - perhaps with an obvious answer but I can't figure it out!
How the HECK do you cover the pail with paper? It turns out lopsided because the pail is not straight up and down.
Oy. I'm sure there's a really great secret for this. Can someone tell me what it is?
Have you tried cutting slits in the paper so that you can smootth & taper the paper as the pail narrows? Or maybe cutting the paper into 3 or 4 pieces and then attaching...
I thought of cutting slits but wasn't sure how I'd cover the seams later. I guess one option would be to use different patterns of DP within the same color family.
Or you could make yourself a template by lining the side seam of the pail with the top edge of the paper and tracing it with a pencil as you slowly roll it. Once you get back around to the seam your template is complete. I used to do this to recover fabric lampshades.

Um...DUH!!! Now, why have I never thought of something like that! I can't believe how simple the solution is...I've recovered lamp shades too but I guess I never made the connection! *sigh* Thank goodness for SCS!!
this probably doesn't help you much at all since the Season clearly just passed, but I had a few of these tin pails this past winter, and I used them to house "Snowman Soup" - perhaps you can modify the Snowman Soup a bit and turn it into something for Valentine's? The tins are the perfect size for a packet of hot cocoa and other goodies.
I had the same issue with covering the sides of it, so I simply adhere a scallop circle w/ a stamp on it to the front of my tin, with a dimensional - and that was it!
