Default Water proof black ink- what's the best? What do you use?

I have a Black Marvy Matchables black ink pad that I LOVE but I would like to get one that's a little bigger for my larger stamps. It needs to be water proof & I love that it stamps bright black & doesn't look dull. Any suggestions? I tried a Stazon one yesterday & didn't like how it turned out. On the House Mouse images it seemed to be too wet & a lot of the little details didn't turn out right.

I would really appreciate any ideas or suggestions. Also is the Stampin' Up Black ink pad waterproof?

Thanks so much!!

There are two Black inks that I "LOVE" and are waterproof
Palette Noir Ink & Adirondack Pitch Black ink

I use the Palette ink more than I do the Adirondack ink. But they both work great!! And NO heat setting either ink.

I have had good luck with the Versafine Onyx Black. On the GP white cardstock I use, it only takes about 30 seconds to dry and it is great for watercoloring...and it has been a much "blacker" black for me than SU's.

For watercoloring, I use Versafine Onyx Black. I find it gives me the best coverage and darkest color. HTH!

Thats what I use also. A very black fine line that can also be used with EP. I do a lot of watercoloring and have never had it bleed. I also like the Versafine Vintage Sepia for a softer look. I've also had good luck with Ancient Page Coal Black.

Another vote for the Versafine, or I have also used Memories quite successfully. The Staz-on is great, but not for the more detailed stamps.

I like Versafine and Memories, too. There's also a black ink called India Ink made by Stewart Superior (who also makes Memories). The package reads like this:
"Super fast drying formula for use on porous and non-porous surfaces. Great for scrapbooking, watercoloring, coloring with markers and general crafting. *Acid free, archival and fade resistant. *Great for watercolors and markers. *Dries permanently on porous and non-porous papers." There's a little more, but I won't bore you . . .

I've been using it specifically for watercoloring and have been VERY happy with it. A retired art teacher who now owns an lss recommended it, and she knows her stuff!

How black is the image with this ink? I bought this several years ago and I didn't think it was jet black. I have a snowman stamp with a black hat. I want to use markers or water color to color his scarf. I initially thought of embossing to get a dark black, but there is also lots of detail that would be lost with the EP. Then I thought of using Staz on jet black, but other ladies in this thread indicate that it's not good for details. I'm at a loss on what to choose. Any ideas.

My 2 favorite black inks: VersaFine Onyx Black and Stewart Superior India Ink Black. Everyone should have both of these. The India Ink is TRULY archival, waterproof, fade proof. It's what I prefer on photos and transparencies. Buy a reinker for this! Am I the only one who is not a fan of StaZon?

I'm not a fan of Stazon. I use Versafine and love it.

Thank you so much for all of the ideas! Now where do you find the Noir Palette & Verafine stamp pads?

Has anyone used the Versafine on the Beckett Expression 80lb Cover- radiance paper from Marco's? That's what I use so I wanted to make sure it would work.

Is there anything better that works on the Beckett?

I use Palette Noir on Beckett. I've used it both for watercoloring, and for the Gamsol technique--no problems and the image is very sharp and black!

I have about six brands of black ink pads and my favorite is definitely Palette's Nior Black. For watercoloring I use StazOn.

As for your StazOn being too "wet", I had that problem when I first bought my Timber Brown StazOn. Just dab it with a paper towel to remove a bit of the ink and it will stamp better.
