I would love to go in and buy a couple feet of my favorite ribbons at my LSS but I am not sure how I would store them all.
This is the place of brilliant ideas so I thought I would ask for some

I store my ribbon which isn't on a roll in jars. I have 10 jars, one for blues, pinks, purples, balck/white, yellows, greens etc and 2 which aren't any specific one colour. The rolls are kept in boxes, narrow, wide and loose wide. I used to keep them all in boxes but this works better for me and the jars look preety as well. When I buy buy i buy either 2 or 3 metre lengths. The slelf really isn't bowing it is just the angle I took the photo on. That is a magnetic board from Ikea that is hanging between the shelf brackets.
I use cropper hopper ribbon cards and ribbon clips...then I have the ribbon in a plastic divider box (one of those Artbin ones that you can adjust the dividers....) It's all lined up in the box - easy to see what colors I have
I have found that my local Ben franklin sells all the colors of the Grosgrain ribbon that is exactly like SU (older retired colors) so when they go on sale I go in and buy a few yards of colors...

Ditto on the Cropper Hopper Fiber and Ribbon cards with clips. I keep mine in a little craft cabinet (set of drawers I got in the tool department at Target).
I just did this because I had a basket with a ton of tangled up ribbon....if you look at my blog header you can see what my basket looked like!! LOL now they are all nicely rolled on clothespins and it takes up soooo much less room!!! I love it!!

Do you know those organizers people put on the back of the driver's and passenger's set? You know ... they hook onto the back of the seat, have clear plastic pockets for the "kids" to put in crayons, games, cards, books etc. Well that is what I put my loose ribbon in. I hang a bit out of the pocket and stuff the rest inside.
I use the clothes pin method for ribbon I can't quite decide the color best to group with. I keep these in a pretty box. All others, in glass containers I have bought at yard sales. Canister, Mason Jars, etc. It adds the perfect colorful look for your SB room too.

Do these need to be sanded down a bit? Will they snag delicate ribbon?
DH just called from Michael and said they had some. I will trundle through the snow some time this week and get a pack.

Sunnysnowflake before you go to michaels if you have a dollar tree near you check there first you can get a bag for $1.00 the $ store here most of the time has them in stock and they are usually for kids crafts so they do not need to be sanded. I have mine stored in a clear stamp box on my table the ones that I am using for the time being only because it lies flat and i can stack my things if I have to other thatn that they are kept in a jar too. Have fun rolling all your ribbon and enjoy all the color you will have for the day. =) ~~~bluegirl~~~
I use the floss or bead storage boxes that are at Michaels for $1.99. They already come with empty thin cardboard holders that you can start wrapping right away. I have about 10 of them and I sort them by color. I can't believe how much more I use my ribbon when I can see it and it's sorted already by color. I also use them to store other embelishments as well.

I cut my ribbons into 1/2 yd increments, roll & clip them together and store them in empty Stampin Up boxes by color. I label the boxes and store them (they fit perfectly) in the drawer in my craft room (I have an old low dresser in the room).
I am headed out today and will see if I can find those clothes pins. I bet I will have to order them from somewhere.
I found them at the dollar store 20 in a pkg.

You can also use the SU round tab punch.........I punch two of them.......leave them opened instead of folding, and adhere them together. The middle part is perfect for wrapping ribbon or cord. Also, you can coordinate the cardstock you use for the color.

I'm a old fashion clothes pin girl myself. I buy them at my local $$ store and if they are rought I rub them down with a brown paper bag (like using sandpaper). I can get between 3-4 yards on each.
I have them by colors, widths and quality in snap boxes I got from OT.
Affordable, clean, happy...

Clothes pins are fantastic until you get so much ribbon you find that the pins themselves take up too much room ;)
I take all my ribbon off the spool and wind it around my hand and secure it with tiny black rubber bands that you find in the hair department of target/drugstores.
I found 2 containers at Hobby Lobby called "Store 'n Style". They hold approx 24 spools of ribbon each. They stack on top of each other.The top is clear, and the ribbon end can hang out so you can just pull and cut. I am needing to get a 3rd one.(Maybe even a 4th!) I'll have a pic in my gallery.

I had this same problem and came up with an idea that works Great. I picked up a bunch of Paint sticks The free ones from the paint store. Wrap the ribbons by color on each stick. One for red ribbons , one for blue, etc. Secure each with a straight pin. I then place them in my drawer sideways and whenever I need ribbon its all their It will hold lots of ribbon on one stick, is portable, Free and you can tell when your getting low on anything,Hope this helps,

Well, you've probably wrapped most of your ribbon by now. I have noticed that you have also been informed about sorting them by color, size, etc.
Do you know about the acronym ROY G BIV? R=reds, O=orange, Y is yellow, G is green, B is blue, I is indigo, and V is violet. This removes so much stress from sorting colors. I feel that Copic markers really express how to use the system. With the reds go pinks, when you have those blue/green colors you can make a separate container for them. I have containers for white/tan and brown/black. I use clear paint tins, which I need to order more from Nichol'es store www.papertreyink.com. I HTH if you didn't already know. Have fun.
I have a cork board in my craft room and I hang longer pieces of ribbon over T-pins on the cork board. Shorter pieces (scraps, really) go in to clear plastic sandwich bags and those are pinned to the cork board too.
I often find it helpful to have embellishments within my line of sight, so buttons and sheets of stickers and baggies of charms, beads, etc. go on the board too. I often bag the little pieces left over from punching out intricate shapes and pin them onto the board too. When I'm at a loss for what to use for a particular project I go to the board and "pick 3", then on to the papers, inks, rubber stamps, picking 3 as I go. I always seem to end up with just the right stuff to make a super card or bookmarker. sab
Ribbon is one of those things that I like to use, but hate to buy because I can't decide how to organize them. I also like stuff out so that I can see it. I found this idea here on SCS. glitter - I like this idea - but where would you keep the rings? Also, one could probably do something very similar to this using bookmark forms, or even pieces of heavy card stock - and rings can be purchased fairly cheaply. But... where would you keep the rings of ribbons?

Thanks so much to EVERYONE for all the really great ideas about ribbon storage - admittedly a problem that I have!!! I'm going to evaluate all these really cool ideas and see what works best for me. Right now I'm leaning towards the Pull-Ez Ribbon Purse and the Clothes Pin storage idea. Maybe even a combination of both!!

I use cardboard from cereal boxes and use my scalloped sizzix tag die and cut out tags. Wrap the ribbon around and secure with a small pin. These can be stored on a ball chain similar to the old light pulls. I love reading everyone's solutions. Ann
